Codec decompresses coded streams.

Press Release Summary:

Model 516 MPEG-2 codec, in PC/104 format, overcomes low bandwidth of PC/104 bus by compressing audio and video at 30 fps for NTSC and 25 fps for PAL. Stream bit rate is programmable from 100 Kbits/s to 10 Mbits/s. A 64-character buffer adds text to each frame. When combined with Model 301 CPU, compressed data from up to 4 codecs can be transmitted at full frame rates over Ethernet. Model 516 can decompress encoded streams to produce composite, S-video and audio.

Original Press Release:

MPEG-2 Codec for PC/104 with Audio

Model 516 is an MPEG-2 codec in PC/104 format. It overcomes the low bandwidth of the PC/104 bus by using hardware to compress audio and video at 30 fps for NTSC and 25 fps for PAL. The system stream bit rate is programmable from 100 Kbits/s to 10 Mbits/s. Uncompressed frames are also available at lower frame rates. The audio is synchronized and imbedded into the same stream as the video. A 64-character buffer is available for adding text to each frame. The 516 has two general-purpose TTL lines. When combined with model 301 CPU, compressed data from up to four 516's can be transmitted at full frame rates over an Ethernet. The codec can decompress encoded streams to produce composite, S-video and audio. It can also generate a color bar test pattern. Software drivers for Linux and Windows are supplied. A low-latency stream player is available for recording and displaying the MPEG stream. The 516' is available now at $514 for quantity 1.
