WSI Announces Combined Cockpit Weather and SIRIUS Satellite Radio

Aircraft operators and owners can now access WSI's industry leading aviation weather along with SIRIUS radio programming from one receiver

OSHKOSH, Wis. and ANDOVER, Mass., July 23 -- WSI Corporation ( www.wsi.com/ ) today announced the introduction of the new WSI InFlight(R) AV-300 datalink weather receiver and the all new AV-350, a cockpit weather system which will enable aircraft operators and owners to receive both WSI's industry leading aviation weather content plus SIRIUS Satellite Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI) programming. Built as a replacement for the existing WSI InFlight AV100 and AV200 product lines, the AV-300 series offers expanded satellite coverage of SIRIUS as well as a more robust platform to host future product enhancements.

"The new AV-300 series will not only supply our customers with expanded satellite coverage but it will also provide a vigorous platform for WSI to deliver market leading innovations in in-cockpit aviation weather services well into the future," stated Laurence Vigeant-Langlois, PhD, Director of Product Management for WSI's Aviation Division. "WSI's offering can help pilots in all aviation segments strategically avoid adverse weather such as storms, icing and turbulence thanks to the most accurate content for the cockpit." WSI InFlight service includes the industry standard, extended range 400km WSI NOWrad(R) composite reflectivity radar mosaic and USPLN lightning data that provides extended coverage throughout North America and hundreds of miles off shore. "Combine WSI's premium aviation weather content, available simultaneously on multiple cockpit displays, with the capability to bring SIRIUS programming into the aircraft and you have an unmatched offering for pilots to consider."

The WSI InFlight AV-300 series systems offers pilots a choice between the AV-300, which receives WSI's aviation weather graphics and data service, or the AV-350, which is capable of receiving both the WSI weather service and SIRIUS. Compatible with a host of multi-function displays (MFDs) and electronic flight bags (EFBs), the tear drop shaped antenna and the new WSI InFlight receiver systems were purposely designed to have the same approximate footprints as the current systems in an effort to help current WSI InFlight customers transition over to the new hardware with minimal effort. Additionally, the new antenna and receiver have been engineered for maximum performance to reject any interference from ground-based signals and to take full advantage of satellite signal availability.

WSI has extended a special transition offer to all current WSI InFlight customers to assist with the switch over to the new hardware. Existing customers of the WSI InFlight service should contact their avionics dealer for complete details.

The new AV-300 series datalink receivers have been developed by the Avidyne Safety Systems Group in Columbus, OH and manufactured at Avidyne's facilities in Melbourne, FL. The new antenna has been developed by Micro-Ant, Inc. in South Easton, MA.
