Belden First to Market With UL-Listed Limited Combustible Coaxial Cables

RICHMOND, IN - Belden Electronics Division, a unit of Belden Inc. (NYSE:BWC) and a world leader in the development of wire and cable products, announced that it will offer UL-listed limited combustible (LC) versions of its New Generation(R) RG-6 and RG-59 video coaxial cables. Belden is one of the first manufacturers to secure the Underwriters Laboratories' certification for limited combustible coaxial cables for security or surveillance. The cables meet all requirements for limited combustible materials as defined by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). According to Belden, they are ideal for mission-critical CCTV and surveillance applications required by data centers worldwide.

"Belden's LC coaxial cables represent the most advanced fire safety performance technology in the marketplace today," says Doug Brenneke, Belden's Product Engineering Group Manager. Key to the effectiveness of the cables' ability to retard the spread of flame and smoke is the use of DuPont Teflon(R) FEP for the insulation and jacket. The LC cables retard the spread of flame and generate extremely low smoke during fire situations-17 times less than standard cables. These performance characteristics help protect human life and reduce the risk of damage to expensive electronic equipment.

According to Patrick Lindner, Global Business Manager, DuPont Communications Cabling Solutions, "Over the past few years, we have seen a growing demand for limited combustible cables with a lower fire load and improved smoke and flame performance. To respond to this need, DuPont and Belden have worked closely together to develop and refine the materials, construction and engineering required to bring top-quality, high-performance LC cabling products to a growing number of mission-critical markets."
