Coating Thickness Gauge uses magnetic and eddy current principles.

Press Release Summary:

Comprising 3 configurations, rugged 6000GP Series measures paint and coating thickness from 0–60 mils (0–1500 µm) on ferrous and non-ferrous metals with resolution of 0.05 or 0.1 mil (1 or 2 µm). Accuracy ranges from 0.05 mils + 1% for 0–2 mils to 2 µm + 1 for >50 µm. Along with audible and visual Hi/Lo alarm, features include impact-resistant and backlit Lexan® display, temperature compensation, Average Zero feature, user-selectable mil or µm units, and high resolution mode.

Original Press Release:

6000GP General Purpose Coating Thickness Gauge

Range: 0-60 mils (1500 µm)

Resolution:  0.05 mil / 0.1 mil (1 µm / 2 µm)

Substrates:  F, N or FN

The 6000GP Series General Purpose Coating Thickness Gauge is a versatile, rugged tester using magnetic and eddy current principles to measure coating thickness on ferrous, non-ferrous metals accurately and quickly.

For typical paint and coating applications for a thickness range of 0-60 mils (0-1500 µm) applied to Ferrous substrates models include 6000-FS1, 6000-FS2 and 6000-FS3.  Models for Non-Ferrous applications include 6000-NS1, 6000-NS2 and 6000-NS3.  Models for use on both Ferrous and Non-Ferrous substrates include 6000-FNS1, 6000-FNS2 and 6000-FNS3.  Complete kit comes with precision plastic shims, protective rubber holster with belt clip, 3 “AAA” batteries, instructions, wrist strap, nylon carrying case with shoulder strap, Certificate of Calibration traceable to NIST and two (2) year warranty.

All models are offered in three possible configurations: BASIC (1), STANDARD (2) and MEMORY (3) permitting users to select the feature set most suitable for their application.  Refer to table below summarizing the different features included with each type “1”, “2” or “3”.
