New Hi-Temp Cermacast 589 Coating & Potting Compound Now Available

Valley Cottage, NY - December 6, 2002

SUMMARY

Ceramacast(TM) 589, a new high temperature, quick-setting ceramic coating and potting compound developed by Aremco Products, Inc., is now available for use in a wide range of applications from the coating of structural steel columns subjected to high temperature oxidation to the potting of small electrical components such as halogen lamps.

FEATURES

Ceramacast(TM) 589 is a two-part, silicon-dioxide based, silicate-bonded, chemically-setting ceramic compound ideal for coating structural steel columns as well as potting small electrical components such as heaters, halogen lamps, gas igniters, and temperature sensors for applications to 2400 °F (1316 °C). Ceramacast(TM) 589 exhibits exceptional electrical and mechanical properties. The dielectric strength and volume resistivity are 100 volts/mil and 109 ohm-cm, respectively; the compressive strength is 4,500 psi and the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) is 5.5 (9.9) in/in/°F (°C) x 10-6.

Ceramacast(TM) 589 is supplied as a two-part system consisting of a powder and liquid binder system. It is mixed to a paste-like consistency in a ratio of 100 parts powder to 35-40 parts binder. It is easily dispensed through pneumatic dispensing equipment and it provides a one-hour pot life and hardening time of 5-6 hours. A full cure is achieved quickly by heat curing for 10-15 minutes at 200°F. Cured product exhibits a porosity of less than 1% and a shrinkage rate of less than .3% shrinkage at 1000°F.

Ceramacast(TM) 589 is supplied from stock in quart, gallon and five gallon pails. It is one of a series of Ceramacast(TM) products that have been developed for use in ultra high temperature coating and potting applications.
