Eastman Chemical Launches Optifilm Enhancer 400, The Latest Addition to Eastman Coatings Film Technologies Portfolio

KINGSPORT, Tenn., Oct. 20, 2004 -- Eastman Chemical Company today announced the release of Optifilm Enhancer 400, an extremely low-VOC, low-odor coalescent for the U. S. architectural coatings market. Optifilm Enhancer 400 is part of the company's newly established Eastman Coatings Film Technologies portfolio of coalescents. The portfolio is designed to provide coatings chemists more formulation latitude to optimize performance while meeting VOC regulations. Based on the industry leading Texanol Ester Alcohol, Eastman's coalescent portfolio also includes Eastman EEH solvent. Eastman EEH solvent offers a faster evaporating coalescent for high gloss and specialty coatings.

Optifilm Enhancer 400 allows the formulation of very low-VOC paints with minimum performance compromise. Optifilm Enhancer 400 can be used as the sole coalescent in products such as low-odor, very low-VOC paints or it can also be blended with Texanol Ester Alcohol or Eastman EEH solvent to further optimize the balance between VOC and performance properties.

"Optifilm Enhancer 400 is the result of customer-centered initiatives to help formulators meet VOC regulations and consumer preference for low odor. More importantly, they can accomplish this without compromising performance," according to Charlie Giaudrone, global industry leader for building and construction at Eastman.
