CO2 Laser offers >1 kW pulsed power and 400 W average power.

Press Release Summary:

Diamond E-400 sealed, pulsed CO2 laser incorporates RF power supply within laser head and integrates into workstation or robotic tool. Able to be operated with pulse repetition rates up to 100 kHz with fast rise and fall times, system offers beam quality of M2<1.2. It is suited for cutting metals, and drilling, scoring, and scribing ceramics, as well as for cutting paper, fabrics, plastics, and composites with minimum charring.

Original Press Release:

Sealed CO2 Laser Delivers >1 kW Pulsed Power and Long Lifetime

Santa Clara, Calif., November 13, 2007 - The new Diamond E-400 from Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq: COHR) is the first sealed, pulsed CO2 laser to offer average power of 400 watts or peak power >1 kW in a fully integrated, compact package. Incorporating the RF power supply within the laser head completely eliminates the RF umbilical in the Diamond E-400, increasing laser reliability and simplifying its integration into a workstation or robotic tool. In addition to its inherent reliability and long lifetime, cost of ownership of the Diamond E-400 is further optimized. Improved serviceability minimizes downtime. Part of this is a full suite of on board diagnostics that lead to proactive maintenance in the future.

The unique pulsing characteristics derived from its slab discharge design enables the Diamond E 400 laser to reach peak powers in excess of 1 kW, in contrast to CW modulated lasers. And the Diamond E-400 can be operated with pulse repetition rates up to 100 kHz, with fast pulse rise & fall times. This combination of high peak power and fast rise & fall time times, together with power on demand and excellent beam quality (M2<1.2), makes the Diamond E-400 an ideal laser for a wide range of materials processing applications. These include cutting metals, and drilling, scoring and scribing ceramics. Paper, fabrics, plastics and composites also can be cut at high speed with minimum charring. Some applications include high volume drilling of cigarette paper and cutting of moldings and airbags in automotive interior applications.
