Mori Seiki's ASL 2400 50 HP, 2-Axis CNC Lathe Provides Ultra-Bright Wheel Finishing

Irving, TX, January 22, 2002 - Mori Seiki introduces the ASL 2400, a 2-axis CNC lathe for wheel machining that provides capability for ultra-bright finishing. Some of the standard features included on this machine are high-resolution one-micron encoders and a precision spindle balanced to less than 3 grams. The ASL 2400 is adept at handling today's larger wheels up to a maximum of 24.5".

This machine offers box-way construction for heavy metal removal while maintaining accuracy during interrupted cuts. There is increased protection for the slideways thanks to a newly employed air purge and dual sliding seal system. Standard ergonomic features include an automatic door, which opens and closes within four seconds, a moveable operating panel, and a full robotic interface. An external chip conveyor for stand-alone operation or a wide - stance free drop for central coolant systems enhances the ASL 2400's efficiency. With the adoption of a large chute cover, in-machine impediments have been eliminated to provide excellent chip flow.

The servo driven turret on the ASL 2400 has a capacity of 6 tools for either O.D. tools using 1-_" square shanks or I.D. tools using 2-_" diameter shanks, which are standard within this industry. The 50-hp (peak) integral DDS motor with an A2-8 spindle nose drives the spindle, thereby enhancing spindle acceleration/deceleration times and eliminating the effects of the vibration caused by belt-driven spindles. The maximum spindle speed is 3,000-rpm with an acceleration / deceleration time of less than 3.4 seconds using a standard finger chuck, top tooling, and wheel.

Mori Seiki produces extremely reliable machine tools for worldwide distribution. The U.S. headquarters is in Dallas with offices in Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Detroit, Los Angeles, and New Jersey.
