CHATSWORTH, CA - NOVEMBER 2, 2007 - Calmotion, a motion control engineering organization, today announced the USB-CNC Disk Reader Control, which provides an interface between virtually all CNCs with an RS232 port and commercial USB flash memory devices. A very cost-effective solution utilizing USB flash memory devices for uploading and downloading part programs, the USB-CNC also drip-feeds through integral DNC software to virtually any CNC machine.

The ruggedized USB-CNC does not require machine hardware or software changes. Positioning the USB-CNC on or next to the CNC eliminates PC's in harsh machine tool/shop environments. A panel mount version is available. Since the USB-CNC is located on or near the CNC, lengthy cables are unnecessary, which allows maximum baud rates and reduces communication errors. Additionally, operators don't have to run back and forth between the PC and the machine tool to begin machining operations.

Operators view programs from the USB-CNC's display and using the keypad select files for uploading and downloading between the USB flash memory key and CNC. The integral DNC software of the USB-CNC features search and mid-tape start function, allowing a machine operator to start at a specific location in a program file. Additionally, other data such as tooling information can be saved in a file.

The USB-CNC Disk Reader Control can be installed and running in less than 10 minutes. Everything required to connect a CNC control to the USB controller is included, including a 1GB USB flash memory key, RS232 cable and documentation.
