Cluster Management Software facilitates various IT tasks.

Press Release Summary:

Featuring single interface for managing AIX 5L(TM) and Linux(TM) nodes, Cluster Systems Management v1.5 provides capabilities for remote parallel network installation, remote hardware control, distributed command execution, file collection and distribution, and cluster-wide monitoring capabilities. It supports select iSeries as well as System p5, p5, xSeries, and BladeCenter hardware models and offers full interoperability of all combinations of CSM-supported hardware and OS.

Original Press Release:

IBM CSM V1.5 can Help Reduce System Management Costs with Expanded Cluster Management Capabilities for AIX 5L and Linux on POWER

CSM offers a robust, powerful, and centralized way to manage a large number of IBM servers from a single point of control.

New with CSM for AIX 5L, Linux on POWER, and Linux Multiplatform V1.5.0:

Support for selected iSeries and new System p5, p5, xSeries, and BladeCenter hardware models
Direct hardware control of System p5 and POWER5 nodes without a Hardware Management Console (HMC)
Enhancements to make installation, configuration, and monitoring of applications easier
IBM Web-based System Manager support on Linux on POWER management servers
Full interoperability of all combinations of CSM-supported hardware and operating systems
Enhancements to distributed command execution (dsh) so that it runs faster and can work with non-CSM node groups

Overview
Cluster Systems Management (CSM) V1.5 is designed to help reduce the overall cost and complexity of IT management by simplifying the tasks of installing, configuring, operating, and maintaining clusters of servers or logical partitions (LPARs). CSM offers a single consistent interface for managing both AIX 5L(TM) and Linux(TM) nodes, with capabilities for remote parallel network installation, remote hardware control, distributed command execution, file collection and distribution, and cluster-wide monitoring capabilities.

CSM V1.5 improvements include

Support for IBM iSeries(TM) and new IBM System p5(TM) 505, 520, 550, and 550Q servers with AIX 5L and Linux on POWER(TM), and for IBM BladeCenter® HS40 and LS20 with CSM for Linux Multiplatform.
New direct hardware control of select System p5 and POWER5(TM) nodes that are not connected to or controlled by an HMC.
Enhancements to allow CSM to help install, configure, and monitor applications, (specifically, GPFS, LoadLeveler®, Parallel Environment, ESSL, and Parallel ESSL).
Ability to run IBM Web-based System Manager on a management server running CSM for Linux on POWER.
Full interoperability of all combinations of CSM-supported hardware and operating systems.
Enhancements to distributed command execution (dsh) so that it runs faster and can work with non-CSM node groups.
IBM Blue Gene(TM) Solution support with CSM for Linux on POWER, allowing you to monitor the Blue Gene database for RAS, configuration, and environmental events.
Improvements for CSM for Linux installs, including:
Optional use of HTTP to serve files during the installation of Linux
IBM pSeries® and JS20 Linux node installation without the use of a remote console
Increased flexibility in the DHCP configuration
Kernel updates during node installation
Secondary adapter installation and configuration support.
Additional pre-installation hardware control, remote hardware inventory, and maintenance support, including enhanced BIOS flashing capabilities.

Note: V1.4 was the last release of CSM that included the Linux Cluster Support extension and support for SLES 8.

Key prerequisites
Runs on AIX 5L V5.2 and V5.3, SUSE, Red Hat, and IBM Cluster 1350, Cluster 1600, and selected IBM System p5, IBM xSeries®, OpenPower(TM), POWER servers, and BladeCenters

Planned availability date
