Cloud Exhibits Water Soluble Packaging Technology at interpack

Cloud introduces its bag packaging equipment and the Hydroforma SP to interpack.

Des Plaines, IL, USA — For its first visit to interpack, Cloud Packaging Solutions will display its Hydroforma SP water-soluble pouch packaging machine in Stand C14, Hall 14 in Düsseldorf, May 8 – 14, 2014. It will also display one of its high speed continuous motion pouch packaging machines. Personnel from sales, engineering, operations and marketing will be on hand to answer attendee's questions.

Although this is its first visit to interpack, Cloud has an installed base of over 50 packaging machines with more than 20 customers in Europe. Cloud has been an industry leader in building high-speed, high-volume, horizontal form, fill and seal (HFFS) equipment with a history of over 80 years in business.

Cloud claims the Hydroforma is the world’s fastest water-soluble pouch packer, running powder applications at up to 1200 pouches per minute and liquid applications at up to 700 pouches per minute. It is designed to produce very low scrap and to integrate easily into secondary packaging systems.

One of the recent customers for the Cloud Hydroforma is Packaging Imolese S.p.A., Imola, Italy. "We package water soluble pouches of laundry detergent for our private-label partners as well as under own Casachiara brand," says Giuliano Reas, General Manager at Packaging Imolese. "A few of the bigger brands introduced these products in early 2011, but our new packaging line opens the market for a broader range of companies."

"We believe the Hydroforma is in a class by itself," says Mike Werner, Cloud's VP of Sales and Marketing. "Cloud has been building these machines for forty years, so we have a lot of experience. Our drum machine produces thirty percent less scrap than a flat machine and our leakage rate is miniscule."

The Hydroforma is equipped with integrated controls and a touch screen menu-driven interface that enables the operator to adjust operations such as the filling rate and speed of drum on the screen, as well as thermoforming, product filling, pouch sealing, and integration with downstream packaging and secondary packaging functions.

The Hydroforma includes an auto-splicer to change rolls of film with minimal downtime. "We also include a Pouch Detector vision system to check for film in the drum cavities," Werner says. "If there is no film, no fill takes place. It saves a lot of product clean-up time."
