Clock Oscillators suit portable electronic applications.

Press Release Summary:

Housed in hermetically sealed 3.2 x 2.5 mm ceramic package, SaRonix S1643 and S1644 quartz crystal clock oscillators feature operating frequencies from 1.8432-106.25 MHz. Powered with 3.3 V or 2.5 V LVCMOS interfaces, crystals use non-PLL clock circuit to achieve low output jitter and current consumption of 8 mA max at up to 50 MHz and 15 mA max at up to 106.25 MHz. Accuracy is ±25 ppm over commercial operating conditions and ±50 ppm over industrial conditions.

New Ultra-Miniature Crystal Clock Oscillators Enable Smaller Platforms, More Features

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 9 -- Pericom Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:PSEM), a worldwide preferred supplier of high-performance interface integrated circuits and frequency control products, is announcing the initial release of its SaRonix S1643 and S1644 product series of quartz crystal clock oscillators contained in an ultra-miniature 3.2 x 2.5mm package. These new oscillators, manufactured at Pericom's recently acquired eCERA factory in Taiwan, are mounted inside a small form-factor and robust ceramic package that is designed for high-density or portable electronic applications. Featuring operating frequencies from 1.8432 to 106.25MHz with 3.3V and 2.5V LVCMOS interfaces, the S1643/44 series are ideal for use in small form-factor hard disk drives, GPS devices, portable multimedia players or recorders, digital cameras, blade servers, switches & routers, portable/personal computing devices, wireless access devices, PON and SOHO networking equipment.

"Last November, Pericom/SaRonix introduced its first crystal resonators in the 3.2 x 2.5mm package (NKS3 series), which distinguished Pericom/SaRonix as a leader in small packaging and manufacturing technologies for quartz crystals. Today, we break new ground by incorporating both a crystal resonator and an integrated clock circuit (clock IC) into this ultra-miniature package to deliver the new S1643 and S1644 crystal clock oscillator products," explains Brandon Ogilvie, Product Marketing Manager for Pericom. "We are one of only a few companies worldwide that has in-house, high-volume production capacity for this type of product. Furthermore, our manufacturing processes and product designs enable us to achieve, in a cost-effective manner, the strict performance requirements of WiFi and industrial operating temperature applications, thus providing the S1643/44 with competitive size, performance, and cost advantages."

The S1643 and S1644 products are packaged in a hermetically sealed industry-standard 3.2 x 2.5mm ceramic package that is seventy-five percent (75%) smaller than the popular 7x5mm clock oscillator package. This reduced package size facilitates the size-reduction of customers' platforms or the addition of more features/functions to existing platforms. The S1643/44 clock oscillators utilize the favorable properties of AT-cut quartz to produce a specified output clock signal between 1.8432 and 106.25MHz. Powered with 3.3V or 2.5V supply, the S1643/44 crystals use a non-PLL clock circuit to achieve low output jitter and rather low current consumption -- rated 8mA max (up to 50MHz) and 15mA max (up to 106.25MHz) -- ideal to for battery-operated or high-density PCB applications requiring low power dissipation. Moreover, the products achieve an impressive +/-25ppM total accuracy over commercial operating conditions and +/-50ppM total accuracy over industrial operating conditions, performance that is critical for wireless applications such as GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, GSM, and WiMax.

Availability and Pricing:
The S1643/44 products are now available for initial samples and prototype requirements. Common operating frequencies include 1.8432, 3.0720, 3.6864, 10, 20, 24, 25, 27, 40, 48, 50, 75, 100, and 106.25MHz. Ordering lead times range from stock to ten (10) weeks and prices start around $1.10 ea for 1,000 pieces (price varies with exact specifications). The devices are available on tape and reel for automated pick-and-place assembly, are RoHS-compliant, and are compatible with Pb-free reflow soldering guidelines.
