Clean Harbors Provides Comprehensive Pharmaceutical Waste Management

Offers site assessments to more than 30,000 members and affiliates served by Novation

NORWELL, MA - Clean Harbors, North America's leading provider of environmental, energy and industrial services, has been selected by Novation, the healthcare industry's leading supply contracting company, to offer pharmaceutical waste services to the more than 30,000 members of VHA Inc., UHC, and Provista served by Novation under the NOVAPLUS® label. Clean Harbors is the first service provider to be awarded under the NOVAPLUS® label, Novation's private label brand of pharmacy and medical-surgical products and services.

Comprehensive Waste Management

Under the agreement, Clean Harbors is making its comprehensive healthcare pharmaceutical waste management service available to the healthcare members served by Novation. The service will simplify waste management at member healthcare facilities and help ensure compliance with regulations, including federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) rules.

Clean Harbors is a full-service provider whose services include pharmaceutical waste regulatory compliance reviews and inventory management, as well as waste collection, transportation and disposal at Clean Harbors' incinerators in accordance with RCRA regulations. These services are supported by an online waste management system that further simplifies administration and tracking through disposal.

The Clean Harbors NOVAPLUS® Program features a one-container pharmaceutical waste disposal approach that allows healthcare personnel to dispose of non-hazardous waste and compatible hazardous waste in a single container. This makes it easier for frontline staff and eliminates misclassified waste.

"Clean Harbors has developed an industry-leading approach to pharmaceutical waste management," said John Kelsey, Clean Harbors Vice President, Healthcare. "We are pleased to offer this expertise under the NOVAPLUS® label, which will enable us to extend our comprehensive pharmaceutical waste management services to the members that Novation serves. We look forward to introducing ourselves through a free assessment and to offering our full suite of services to members to help them reduce the complexity of managing pharmaceutical wastes while fully complying with regulatory requirements."

Free Site Assessment

As a preferred provider, Clean Harbors is offering free site assessments to the VHA, UHC and Provista members and affiliates served by Novation. Interested members can call 888.304.7035 or email healthcareservices@cleanharbors.com for further information or to arrange a site evaluation.

"This NOVAPLUS® agreement with Clean Harbors, the first with a service provider, is another major step in our efforts to provide cost-effective, efficient and compliant support to our VHA, UHC and Provista members," said David Jameson, Vice President, Pharmacy, Novation. "Clean Harbors has the safety and environmental expertise, national reach and waste management and disposal facilities to help members meet regulatory expectations and implement proper management processes."
