Micro Circular Plastic Connectors from Tyco Electronics Facilitate Miniaturized Electronic Designs
HARRISBURG, Pa., November 8- Tyco Electronics today announced the availability of a new circular plastic connector (CPC), the micro CPC. Micro CPC connectors accommodate 2-7 contact positions for wire-to-wire, wire-to-board or wire to panel installations. The low cost design incorporates a high reliability contact system which makes the connector suitable for disposable medical electronics applications. Additionally, the cost and contact integrity aspects of the connector make it suitable for use in many industrial and instrumentation applications.
Unique Contact System
The micro CPC connector uses spring probe contact technology. This new technology helps improve the reliability of mobile and hand-held devices. High-performance spring-probe contacts offer new options for creating robust and reliable interconnections on smaller footprints, helping designers and engineers satisfy the ever-rising demands for performance, functionality and portability. The spring-probe contact design provides a redundant internal current path for optimal electrical perfornance when exposed to vibration, motion and mechanical shock, as compared to many traditional probe designs. Spring probe contacts typically provide up to 5,000 mating cycles and are suitable for up to 2A. For lower cost and lower performance requirements, an efficient screw machined pin and socket contact arrangement is also available.
Additional features of the micro CPC include environmental sealing and a squeeze to release mating system with optional breakaway configurations available. The connector accommodates
24-30AWG wire and solder cup/tail termination. The panel mount version is accomplished with a jam nut arrangement.
