Cingular Wireless Raises the Bar for Tri-State Customers

Additional Spectrum and Continued Network Investments Provide Best-Ever Service Quality

NEW YORK, Jan. 29 // -- Cingular Wireless, now the new AT&T, today said its New York-area customers are enjoying the best wireless experience ever as the company begins using newly acquired spectrum to increase network capacity.

Earlier this month, as part of an agreement to dissolve a joint network venture with T-Mobile in metropolitan New York, AT&T's wireless unit received an additional 10MHz of spectrum. The added spectrum improves call quality for the company's GSM customers, and enables the company to further expand its high-speed 3G services in one of the largest cities in the country.

"Gaining additional spectrum for a wireless network is like adding extra lanes to a major highway to ensure minimal congestion," said Tom DeVito, vice president and general manager for AT&T's wireless operations in New York/New Jersey. "We now have expanded the number of lanes on our network to handle more calls with better quality as we provide customers with the very best wireless service."

DeVito said recent independent drive tests show that no carrier has fewer dropped calls in the New York area. The results were based on tests conducted recently by a leading research company that provides information, insight and performance measurements for the wireless industry. These drive tests measure which carrier has the fewest dropped and incomplete calls in a market.

DeVito added, "Our customers deserve the best wireless experience possible. We will continue to make network investments and offer compelling pricing, exclusive products and the most advanced data services in the industry."

AT&T also offers its 3G mobile wireless broadband service in the New York metropolitan area, including the city's major airports, and in portions of Westchester, Long Island and New Jersey. With data speeds of 400-700 kilobits per second, AT&T's wireless customers can rapidly access e-mail, browse the Internet, connect to business applications, or watch news or weather video clips while on-the-go from Yankee Stadium to Battery Park, or when they are waiting for a flight at Kennedy, LaGuardia or Newark airports. AT&T provides 3G services in more than 160 markets and will continue to add coverage to meet market service demand.

Over the past two years, the company has invested over $1 billion in the area and turned on-air more than 575 new cell sites. Nationally, the company has spent more than $12 billion on its network.

As part of its commitment to offer the best wireless experience, AT&T offers an online mapping tool at www.cingular.com/coverageviewer. Also available at all company retail locations or by calling 1-866-CINGULAR, the tool provides customers with up-to-date wireless coverage information. It's also designed to answer a customer's specific wireless coverage questions based on an address, street intersection, zip code or even a landmark by enabling a customer to view their wireless coverage down to the street level while depicting the likelihood of coverage in various scenarios -- such as inside a building.
