Chipset suits video conferencing and telepresence systems.

Press Release Summary:

Featuring WW10000BA single chip encoder and WW10001BA single chip decoder, WW10K H.264 HD codec chipset has encode-decode tandem delay of less than 35 msec, or 1 frame at 30 frames/sec. Chipset runs at 110 MHz in single chip implementations and can handle up to 4 video inputs simultaneously at various bit rates and resolutions up to 1,920 x 1,088. WW10001BA decompresses encoder's bit stream into either 1080i/p or 720p HD video.

W&W Communications Introduces H.264 HD Codec Chipset for Video Conferencing and Telepresence Applications

The WW10K H.264 HD codec chipset from W&W Communications encodes and decodes video in 1080p resolution with minimum delay at low bit rates for practical video communications

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 1 /- W&W Communications, Inc., the leader in H.264 HD encoders, announced today its WW10K H.264 HD codec chipset for high-definition video conferencing and telepresence applications. The chipset consists of the WW10000BA single chip encoder and the WW10001BA single chip decoder. The low encode-decode tandem delay and ability to encode and decode 1080p and 720p video at low bit rates makes the WW10K chipset suitable for high-definition video conferencing and telepresence applications.

"The confluence of HD and broadband is starting to change the perception of video conferencing from elusive to real, and makes possible instant, life-like face-to-face communications across the globe," said Kishan Jainandunsing, Vice President Marketing at W&W Communications. "Our WW10K H.264 HD codec chipset achieves high quality video at bit rates that make such communications very practical. It provides OEMs with the best solution in the industry for the design of broadband HD video conferencing and telepresence systems."

The H.264 standard produces superior results compared to the older MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 video compression standards. However, the significantly higher computational complexity of H.264 poses a major challenge in terms of power and footprint. The WW10K chipset overcomes these challenges by running at 110MHz only, in single chip implementations of the encoder and decoder. The WW10000BA encoder compresses 1080p or 720p HD video at 2x lower bit rates and 15% better PSNR than MPEG-2 HD encoders. The WW10001BA decompresses the encoder's bit stream into perfect quality 1080i/p or 720p HD video.

The chipset has an encode-decode tandem delay of less than 35ms or about 1 frame at 30 frames/second. It delivers performance very close to the H.264 Joint Model. It can handle up to four video inputs simultaneously at different bit rates and resolutions, up to 1920x1088. This makes it possible to design systems that dedicate one camera per participant or group of participants and one display per participant or group of participants, for more immersive and life-like video communications experiences.

The WW10000BA encoder integrates an advanced context-adaptive noise reduction filter. This not only reduces noise in the source video, but also improves the encoder's compression efficiency significantly depending on the video content. Accurate constant bit rate control guarantees video quality versus available channel bandwidth. Software upgradeability of the chipset makes it easy to apply field upgrades.

The exceptional video quality, low delay, single chip features and software upgradeability make the WW10K chipset the best choice in the industry for HD video conferencing and telepresence systems.
