Centillium Launches Ultra-High-Speed and Long-Reach VDSL2 Solution

ARION CO and CPE Devices Are First to Offer Multimode and Advanced Quality-of-Experience Capabilities

FREMONT, Calif., June 19 / / -- Centillium Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CTLM), a leading provider of broadband access solutions, sets a new level for performance and reliability in the broadband DSL arena with the introduction of ARION(TM), its eXtremeVDSL2(TM) system-on- a-chip family. Targeted for DSL access equipment manufacturers for the central office (CO) and customer premises equipment (CPE) markets, the ARION end-to- end VDSL2 solution offers 100Mbps symmetric data rates and boasts a reach that is over 60 percent longer than the industry standard.

The innovative features of the ARION family bring unprecedented voice and video quality for multi-channel video, HDTV, video-on-demand and interactive gaming applications, significantly enhancing the users' quality of experience. Combined with density, cost and power advantages, the ARION chipset enables rapid deployment of Triple Play services over DSL to a market hungry for new, premium, interactive services.

Supporting full backwards compatibility with ADSL2/2+/2++ and VDSL1 technologies, the ARION chipset provides quick time-to-market for service providers looking to bring premium services to consumers without worries about interoperability with legacy infrastructure. In multi-mode operation, ARION enables auto-detection and seamless connectivity to legacy modems, allowing operators to conduct smooth and uninterrupted migration from old technologies to VDSL2 without costly infrastructure re-design.

The ARION family supports multiple latency paths for voice and video traffic, an innovative technology critical for quality-of-experience. The low latency path can be assigned to delay sensitive voice data, while the interleaved path can be assigned to video data with a high level of impulse noise protection in a flexible and programmable way.

"Centillium continues to innovate and deliver leading solutions for the DSL market," said Jag Bolaria, senior analyst, The Linley Group. "By offering a complete end-to-end solution, Centillium aids in the speedy deployment of new services that customers demand. With the premium DSL services primed for growth, the ARION chipset provides a timely solution to accelerate this growth."

Centillium optimized the ARION family to complement the company's existing PON and VoIP products. Centillium's PON and VoIP technologies in combination with the ARION chipset can provide an optimum solution for optical and voice gateways. "The announcement of our VDSL2 chips underscores our commitment to offer a one-stop shop so that key broadband technologies like PON, VoIP and DSL can be integrated seamlessly to bring leading-edge, multi-play solutions to fruition with the highest quality of experience and at an optimized cost," said Didier Boivin, vice president of marketing at Centillium.

The ARION CO and CPE chipsets are based on the International Telecommunication Unit (ITU-T/993.2) standard specifications. Addressing worldwide interoperability requirements, Centillium's ARION chipset is interoperable with other standards-compliant VDSL2 solutions.
