Chipset enables symmetric, 6-band VDSL2 deployments.

Press Release Summary:

Comprised of BCM6368 VDSL2/ADSL2+ gateway SoC and 30 MHz BCM6306 analog front-end companion chip, BCM6368/BCM6306 Chipset provides more than 100 Mbps of symmetric downstream and upstream bandwidth. Chipset enables telecom operators to deploy VDSL2 solution that supports VDSL2 or ADSL2+, multi-port Ethernet switching, and multi-line VoIP capabilities, as well as non-blocking 802.11n wireless and 6-band high-speed VDSL2 for multi-dwelling units and fiber-to-the-curb deployments.

Broadcom Demonstrates 6-Band VDSL2 Chipset Solution Supporting up to VDSL2 Profile 30a at CES 2009

New Analog Front-End Companion Chip Enables High-Speed, Symmetric, 6-band VDSL2 Deployments and VDSL2/ADSL2+ Channel Bonding Applications

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7 / International CES -- Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ:BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced that it will demonstrate xDSL customer premises equipment (CPE) system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions supporting all G.993.2 VDSL2 bands at this week's 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show. The featured chipset includes the proven Broadcom(R) BCM6368 VDSL2/ADSL2+ gateway SoC (announced in September 2008) and the new BCM6306 analog front-end (AFE) companion chip that delivers up to 30 MHz bandwidth to support telecommunications applications ranging from ADSL to 6-band VDSL2.

Enabling greater bandwidth and seamless ADSL2+ fallback, the BCM6368/BCM6306 chipset provides telecommunications operators the ability to support a rich array of triple play services such as voice, high definition (HD) video, data and interactive gaming, while enabling operators and carriers to systematically and cost effectively upgrade their existing xDSL infrastructures. Telecom operators can now deploy a low cost VDSL2 solution that supports either VDSL2 or ADSL2+, multi-port Ethernet switching, enhanced quality of service (QoS) for video over DSL services, multi-line VoIP capabilities, non-blocking 802.11n wireless and 6-band high-speed VDSL2 for multi-dwelling unit (MDU) and fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) deployments.

Today's announced BCM6306 is a single-line VDSL2/ADSL2+ multimode AFE chip that is optimized to work in conjunction with the BCM6368 transceiver. The combined BCM6368/6306 VDSL2/ADSL2+ chipset solution delivers more than 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) of symmetric downstream and upstream bandwidth. Additionally, by leveraging the additional analog input on the BCM6368, the BCM6306 supports VDSL2 and ADSL2+ channel bonding, thereby increasing the upstream and downstream bandwidth of DSL connections.

The BCM6368 is a single-chip multimode residential gateway solution that provides unparalleled, standards-based silicon and software to the industry, addressing all aspects of sophisticated digital subscriber line (DSL)-based services including Wi-Fi(R), voice over IP, Ethernet switching and IPTV. This integrated access device (IAD) solution enables modem manufacturers and carriers to deploy high performance, future-proofed CPE solutions that support ADSL2+ or VDSL2, and features Broadcom's PhyR(TM) impulse noise protection technology, a high performance MIPS(R)-based applications processor with hardware-assisted wirespeed bridging and routing, hardware-assisted IPsec acceleration for virtual private network (VPN) termination, and support for USB 2.0 host and devices.

"We are very pleased to demonstrate an advanced VDSL2/ADSL2+ solution for next generation telecom networks that enables manufacturers and operators to cost effectively address the 6-band symmetric VDSL2 market," said Greg Fischer, Vice President & General Manager of Broadcom's Carrier Access line of business. "By leveraging operator acceptance of our high performance BCM6368 xDSL IAD, customers can rapidly expand their VDSL2 product lines and enter the 6-band market with minimal software and hardware re-design and qualification."
