Chip Wringers facilitate coolant reclamation.

Press Release Summary:

Series VBU can be used at single machine or integrated into machining cell, machining system, or factory-wide chip handling system to separate coolant, dry chips, and discharge both in unattended operation. Model VBU-300 offers steel chip handling capacity of 150 l/hr, while Model VBU-1000 handles 500 l/h, and Model VBU-200 processes up to 1,000 l/h. Larger capacity Models VBU-4000 and VBU-6000 are also available.

How to Wring Out Longer Coolant Use, Efficient Chip Disposal at IMTS 2004

Cost effective chip -wringer helps reclaim more coolant plus dries chips more thoroughly for easier, cleaner disposal - equaling lower costs in both areas

At IMTS '04, Mayfran International, one of the world's leading producers of chip handling, discharge and coolant recycling systems, put the spotlight on its equipment designed and engineered to enhance the productive performance of today's and tomorrow's metalworking machines. Among these technologies was the VBU 300 Chip Wringer, an economical method for reclaiming more coolant for processing/reuse, helping lower chip handling/disposal costs while reducing environmental concerns. The high-speed VBU wringer can be used at a single machine or integrated into a machining cell, a machining system or factory-wide chip handling system to separate coolant, dry chips and discharge both in a virtually untended, maintenance-free operation for maximum cost and labor savings.

In operation, the VBU unit is simplistic - chips are continuously metered and fed into the unit's charge funnel, and from there to the spinning bowl. Chips quickly accelerate to that of the bowl's RPM at which point centrifugal and high G-forces drive the chips (and coolant) up the side walls. Coolant outlet slots, located just below the bowl's upper rim, allow the fluid, by now wrung from the chips, to be discharged and directed to further processing or reuse.

The chips continue being driven up and pass over the bowl's rim where they are guided by the wringer housing and discharge chute to either a discharge conveyor or a chip bin.

Mayfran has available three standard size VBU Wringers - the VBU-300 with 150 liters/hour (150 kg/h) steel chip handling capacity; the VBU-1000 featuring 500 l/h (500 kg/h) capacity; and the VBU-2000 that can process up to 1000 l/h (1000 kg/h) of steel chips. Larger capacity VBU-4000 & 6000 models are also available. Capacity ratings for other materials are available for these units, and application assistance as well as custom size/capacity engineered systems are also offered.

Also shown by Mayfran at IMTS were a ConSep® 1000 with a Mayfran AT(TM) Cleaner for grinding applications, the new CrosBelt(TM) FS2000 chip removal/coolant cleaning separator unit with an AT Cleaner, A FastPac(TM) Briquetter, a CT 20 ChipTote®, a magnetic roller conveyor and a single shaft MA Shredder.. .an integral element of a Mayfran Viavent® overhead, centralized multi-machine chip and coolant pumping system.
