Chip Resistors avoid roll-off at frequencies over 100 MHz.

Press Release Summary:

Available in sizes down to 0402, Thin Film Series FC offers resistance values from 10-1,000 ohms, depending on case size, with precision tolerances down to 0.1%. Featuring alumina substrate and passivated nichrome resistive layer, units are rated for stability of 500 ppm/°C over 2,000 hr at 70°C and for operating temperature of -55 to +125°C. They are intended for low-noise amplifiers, precision voltage dividers, and attenuation circuitry.

Vishay's New FC Thin Film Chip Resistors Avoid Roll-Off at Frequencies Over 100 MHz, Offer TCR Values Down to ±25 ppm/°C

New Resistors Are Available in Industry-Standard Sizes Down To 0402

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - September 22, 2004 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced the release of the new FC series of high-frequency chip resistors, which avoid roll-off even at frequencies over 100 MHz and are available in a range of standard case sizes, including the very compact 0402.

The new Vishay Thin Film FC chip resistors are intended for use in low-noise amplifiers, precision voltage dividers, attenuation circuitry, and line termination applications in fixed telecom and military/aerospace systems requiring fast-response, high-frequency circuitry. High-frequency performance data is provided on the FC product data sheet to help designers choose the best component for their designs, and represents an industry-first capability for this device type.

Designed with low internal reactance, as represented by the capacitance and inductance of the terminations and substrate, the new FC resistor chips function over a very high frequency range. A special laser edge-trimming process allows for precision tolerances down to 0.1%, and resistance values for the chip resistors ranges from 10 Ù to 1000 Ù, depending on case size. The FC chip resistors offer low TCR values down to ±25 ppm/°C for devices with resistance ratings greater than 50 Ù.

Available in the industry's smallest standard formats, including 1206, 1005, 0805, 0603, 0505, and 0402, FC series chip resistors eliminate the need for customizing high-frequency devices or for tuning circuits to the appropriate frequency. As a result, designers have greater flexibility in choosing an off-the-shelf, easy-to-integrate solution that meets the performance demands of high-frequency circuitry.

Each chip resistor features a high-purity (99.6%) alumina substrate and a passivated nichrome resistive layer. Terminations for the FC devices comprise a gold or SN 60 solder over a nickel barrier. All of these devices are rated for stability of 500 ppm/°C over 2000 hours at +70 °C and for an operating temperature range of -55 °C to +125 °C.

Samples and production quantities of the new devices are available now, with a lead time of eight weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery is $0.70 in 1000-piece quantities.
