Vishays T95 Solid Tantalum Chip Capacitors Offer High-Reliability Screening and Surge Current Testing Options with Low ESR Values Down to 0.055 W

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA August 25, 2006 Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced the release of new Tantamount® Hi-Rel COTS T95 series solid tantalum chip capacitors, designed to provide high-reliability screening and surge current testing options.

Designed for safety-critical avionics and military applications such as radar and weapon systems, the new T95 capacitors offer designers a wide array of ratings not found in available MIL specifications, providing the flexibility and convenience of a commercial product without the need for costly, time-consuming specification development.

These conformal-coated capacitors offer high-reliability screening options including Weibull grading, and surge current testing options in accordance with MIL-PRF-55365 in a wide variety of cases. This differentiates these capacitors from commercial grade capacitors by featuring the required reliability and surge screening options necessary to ensure performance in Hi-Rel applications while still maintaining a maximum capacitance-voltage product, a figure of merit that measures the amount of energy a capacitor can store, and helps designers choose the best capacitor for their applications.

The devices released today, part of Vishays Tantamount® tantalum capacitor family, have a capacitance range of 0.1 F to 680 F and a voltage range from 4 V to 50 V. They offer the option of low ESR values, which extend down to 0.055 ohm at +25°C and 100 kHz. Devices in the T95 series operate over a temperature range of -55°C to +125°C.

Their extended capacitance and voltage values coupled with reliability, surge current, and ESR options make the T95 tantalum capacitors a flexible solution in demanding applications where the cost of failure is high. The T95 will additionally reduce costs and time to market by eliminating the need for customer drawings, source control drawings, or special part numbers.

The surface-mount T95 capacitors are available in standard EIA tape-and-reel packages and feature standard SnPb terminations, with 100% tin terminations available.

Samples and production quantities of the new T95 solid tantalum chip capacitors are available now, with lead times of 8 to 10 weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery varies depending on rating and screening options.
