CHEP Launches New Pooling Pallet for the South African Market

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - November 30, 2006 - CHEP, the world leader in pallet and container pooling solutions, announced the introduction of a new 1000 mm x 1200 mm wood pooling pallet for the southern Africa market called the B1210B (06 Spec) pallet. The new pallet is a re-engineered version of CHEP's most widely used pallet designed in response to increasing timber prices and to enhance customer service.

Like its predecessor, the B1210B pallet has a load capacity of 1000 kg when racked across the 1000 mm face and is compatible with industry standard racking at 762 mm, 838 mm and 914 mm spans. The B1210B pallet is virtually identical to its counterpart -- the only visible differences are the replacement of the 150 mm width boards with two 75 mm slats and the change of six of the nine blocks that separate the decks to 100 mm.

"The CHEP B1210B pallet has the identical external dimensions and capabilities as the 3.5 million pooling pallets currently in circulation in southern Africa, so our customers will see no difference in performance. The pallet passed tests at both CHEP's Innovation Centre in Orlando, USA and at major customer sites in South Africa with flying colors," said Jurie Welman, President, CHEP Africa.

For customers, the new pallet addresses certain racking challenges and helps minimize the cost of pallet hire by reducing the use of more expensive boards. Customers may need to readjust their palletiser sensors to handle mixed stacks of the new and old pallets.

Information on the CHEP B1210B pallet is available from local CHEP service representatives or 031-2679300.
