Chemical Facility in Inner Mongolia, China to Use GE Gasification Technology

The technology will convert local coal into about 4.5 million normal cubic meters per day of synthesis gas (syngas), which will be used to produce chemicals at the plant, owned by Xinneng Energy Corporation of Erdos, Inner Mongolia.

The licensing of its gasification technologies for use in industrial applications such as the chemical industry is a key segment of GE's overall gasification business, which also includes integrated gasification combined-cycle (IGCC) technology for use in "cleaner coal" power generation plants. GE's cleaner coal IGCC technology is a product of ecomagination, the company's commitment to address challenges such as the need for cleaner, more efficient sources of energy, reduced emissions and abundant sources of clean water.

This is GE Energy's 29th gasification license sold in China. Among the 29 licenses, 19 are coal feed and 10 are heavy oil or natural gas feed projects. Seventeen plants are currently in commercial operation with the remaining 12 in engineering and construction phases.

"Through our various gasification licensing projects across China, we have gained wide experience in gasifying various types of Chinese coal," said John Lavelle, general manager of GE Energy's gasification business. "GE has gasification licensing and technology teams in place in China to provide the local support necessary to help ensure the success of these projects."

The scope of the contract for the Xinneng facility includes process design package preparation, technical service for operator training, pre-commissioning and start-up support as well as supply of a feed injector and quench ring.

China Tianchen Chemical Engineering Corp. of Tianjin, China is the engineering company for this project and will carry out the detailed design. GE Energy will assist in reviewing the detailed design drawings of critical equipment and provide in-country support for all phases of the project.

Xinneng Energy Corp. supplies energy-chemical products and services to customers. It is part of Xin'ao Group, an enterprise based in Hebei province that focuses on clean energy development and utilization.
