CHAD Industries Showcases New WaferMate300(TM) Wafer Handling Workcell at Semicon West 2006

WaferMate300(TM) workcell is selected by top WLP process tool company for large automation program

June '06, Anaheim, CA - Chad Industries, Inc., a leading supplier of factory automation solutions for the semiconductor, electronics, and life sciences industries will be showcasing the latest release of their WaferMate(TM) product line at the Semicon West tradeshow that opens next month in San Francisco, CA. The WaferMate300(TM) wafer handling workcell combines reliable hardware with fully integrated software, resulting in the most robust solution for today's wafer and substrate loading applications.

The WaferMate300 has already been selected as the wafer handler of choice by a top WLP (Wafer Level Packaging) process tool company for their customer's large automation program. It is the optimal solution for the WLP tool market because it offers a high degree of performance and flexibility at an exceptional value. This flexibility is essential to meet the automation requirements of WLP processes, which can involve the handling of non-standard substrates such as thin or double-sided wafers. The WaferMate300 is a 5th generation design that leverages the best aspects of the highly successful WLM(TM) series yet does so at significantly lower cost, permitting automated wafer handling at a much lower cost of entry.

The WaferMate300 is designed to accommodate both 300mm and 200mm wafers via SEMI standard automated loadports. It can be configured with a broad range of options to meet specific handling requirements. These options include special end-effectors to address thin, double-sided, and glass wafer handling, and OCR and barcode readers for wafer identification and traceability. The WaferMate300 is designed to be SEMI S2, S8, and CE compliant and is also available with integrated ISO Class 2 clean air system. It features a PC-based control system that enables custom programming to address even the most demanding wafer handling applications.

"We are very excited about the market potential of the WaferMate300 and we are extremely pleased with the success of the WaferMate product line in general," says Scott Klimczak, president of Chad Industries. "We gathered significant customer input to develop a high performance, low cost product that could meet the constant challenges of the fast-developing WLP market. Given the 200mm and 300mm OEM design wins the WaferMate has generated since its inception 12 months ago, it is clear that we have met the market challenges."

Chad Industries designs, manufactures and markets wafer handling solutions for the semiconductor industry, mechanical and odd-form component assembly solutions for the electronics industry, liquid handling solutions for the life sciences industry, and other automated handling, assembly and test solutions. CHAD began operations in 1973 and established leadership in the electronics assembly for odd-form component to printed circuit assembly (CHAD IQ(TM) Product Line), and has expanded their solutions expertise to include semiconductor, fiber optics, and life sciences solutions.
