Kemet Introduces Two New High Temperature Ceramic Dielectric Platforms Which Include First-to-Market Ultra Stable X8R

Greenville, South Carolina (November 30, 2009) - KEMET Corporation (KEME.OB), a leading manufacturer of tantalum, multilayer ceramic, solid aluminum, plastic film, paper and electrolytic capacitors, today announced the launch of two new high temperature dielectric platforms - Ultra Stable X8R and X8L dielectrics.

"These two dielectric platforms, especially our first-to-market Ultra Stable X8R technology, represent KEMET's continuing commitment to being a technology leader in our industry," stated Per Loof, KEMET's Chief Executive Officer. "Part of being The Capacitance Company involves constantly striving to have the latest and most advance capacitance solutions available for our customers," continued Loof.

Ultra Stable X8R and X8L Dielectric SMD MLCCs feature a 150°C maximum operating temperature, offering the latest in high temperature dielectric technology and therefore a reliable choice for extreme temperature applications. Product applications include harsh environments such as Down Hole (Oil Exploration), Automotive (Under Hood), Military and Aerospace.

"Both dielectric platforms will allow us to offer our customers the latest in high temperature technology. Successful development of these platforms further differentiates us from our competitors," stated Corey Antoniades, Ceramic Business Group Technical Marketing Manager.

KEMET's Ultra Stable X8R Dielectric offers the same temperature capability as conventional X8R, but without the capacitance loss due to applied DC voltage. Therefore, this product is a suitable replacement for higher capacitance and larger footprint devices that fail to offer capacitance stability.

Six standard package options are available, including EIA 0402, 0603, 0805, 1206, 1210, and 1812 case sizes. Devices are available in dc voltage ratings of 25V, 50V and 100V, with capacitance offerings ranging from 10pF to 0.22F. Capacitance tolerance offerings include ±1%, ±2%, ±5%, ±10% and ±20%, with capacitance shift limited to ±15% from -55°C to +150°C.

KEMET's X8L Dielectric offers an operating temperature range from -55°C to
+150°C with capacitance shift limited to ±15% from -55°C to +125°C and
±15, ±40% from 12°C to 150°C. Five standard package options are available, including EIA 0402, 0603, 0805, 1206, and 1210 case sizes. Devices are available in dc voltage ratings of 10V, 25V and 50V, with capacitance offerings ranging from 10pF to 0.22F. Capacitance tolerance offerings include ±5%, ±10% and ±20%.

Ultra Stable X8R and X8L platforms are environmentally friendly, in compliance with RoHS legislation (RoHS 6/6) and are being offered in both commercial and automotive grades with 100% pure matte tin-plated terminations that allow for excellent solderability. Sn/Pb termination is also available upon request. A flexible termination option will be available in the coming months.

Samples and production quantities of KEMET MLCCs with the Ultra Stable X8R and X8L dielectrics are available now.
