Central Maintenance and Welding, Inc. Fabricates Vessel for Koch Knight LLC
February 5, 2009 (Lithia, Florida) - With their initial order from Koch Knight LLC in East Canton, Ohio, Central Maintenance and Welding, Inc. (CMW) recently completed a custom metal fabrication project for a final absorbing tower pump tank.
Fabricated from A516 Grade 70 carbon steel at CMW's main shop in Lithia, Florida, this vessel will be utilized to store sulfuric acid at the end user's plant site. Koch Knight LLC has a proprietary PYROFLEX® Acid Proof Membrane System and KNIGHT-WARE ® Brick Lining Design to provide an outstanding protection preventing the acid from reaching the carbon steel. By using the combination of A516 Grade 70 carbon steel and PYROFLEX ® membrane and KNIGHT-WARE ® brick this allows an optimum economic solution and a more effective way to store acid for chemical processing plants.
The combination of brick lining systems and carbon steel vessels provides an optimum solution compared with stainless steel tanks, while also providing a longer life and better performance under varying conditions. The brick lining and membrane system provide a corrosive protection barrier to the steel substrate, allowing for reduced turnarounds and outages by focusing on the required maintenance of the membrane and brick lining, as opposed to the vessel itself. This membrane lining system also avoids acid contamination of the steel shell, which could potentially complicate welding and repair assembly procedures.
CMW's Engineering Division collaborated closely throughout the process with Koch Knight to insure that the project was properly executed to all stipulated requirements. This resulted in a very successful delivery at job completion.
