OSRAM Enhances Powerful OSLUX LED Flash for Cell Phones



LED with UX:3 chip technology generates more brightness from smaller package

The new OSLUX LED from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors is brighter and smaller than ever before, and it provides extremely uniform light thanks to a chip employing state-of-the-art UX:3 technology. This advancement, coupled with an optimized lens, produces a 50 percent increase in brightness over the first-generation OSLUX LED.

The new OSLUX LED for flash applications has an area of only 3.9 mm² and a height of only 2.5 mm (previously 3 mm) and is 50 lux brighter, increasing its output to 150 lux. What's more, the light is more evenly distributed over the surface and can illuminate a wider area compared to previous chip technologies. In addition, the common dead spot in the center of the illumination area is completely absent.

The impressive brightness of the OSLUX LED flash is the result of new UX:3 chip technology which makes the LED capable of handling high currents while generating even more light from the chip. This new OSLUX LED is considerably more efficient at high currents than previous LEDs and offers impressive luminous efficacy in a small area.

The OSLUX LED is available with two different lenses that determine the percentage of center brightness (20% or 40%) distributed to the corners of the flash area. At a distance of one meter, the LED flash uniformly illuminates the subject in a rectangular area (90 cm or approx. three feet diagonal), which is sufficient to produce razor-sharp pictures even in low light conditions. The selected lens is integrated in the LED and matched to the beam characteristics of the top-emitting UX:3 chips.

With the new OSLUX, OSRAM's LED portfolio for flash applications is even better tailored to meet the demands of mobile and slimline applications requiring small-but-powerful light sources. For users who wish to supply their own lens packages, OSRAM offers the CERAMOS LED, one of the brightest lens-free flash LEDs on the market.
