Celanese Emulsion Polymers Introduces EcoVAE® for Low VOC Coatings at Paint India 2010

Mumbai, India, - Celanese Emulsion Polymers makes its debut as an exhibitor at Paint India in Mumbai, March 4-6. Under the business' slogan, "Your Future is Our Focus...Worldwide", the team from Celanese will discuss current trends and future technologies with regional and multinational paint producers. Celanese will also introduce its EcoVAE® brand of emulsions for low VOC, eco-friendly, waterborne interior paints to this audience.

"Celanese Emulsion Polymers is pleased to support the Indian paint industry through our increased presence at Paint India 2010," said Neeraj Nagpal, business development manager for the Indian region. In addition to the booth at the exhibition, Celanese's technical manager in Asia, YiFang Shi, will deliver a presentation that chronicles the history of vinyl acetate/ethylene (VAE) emulsions from low VOC interior matt and semi-gloss paints to high performance exterior paints.

Emulsions for the 'Paint of the Future'

"EcoVAE brand emulsions have already been embraced by paint producers across North America and China in their quest to formulate low VOC, eco-friendly interior coatings. We will continue the global progression into India," said Nagpal. Interior paints made with EcoVAE are very low in odor and VOCs, yet offer high-performance characteristics such as excellent wet scrub resistance.

Celanese will introduce Celvolit 1665 to the Indian audience for use in ecologically-friendly, waterborne exterior coatings. "Celvolit 1665 is an innovative VAE technology designed to improve the performance of outdoor weathering including reduced dirt pick-up and fading," said Nagpal. In addition, this VAE emulsion is ideal for exterior thermal insulation systems (EIFS) and offers fire retardant behavior in exterior paints and plasters.

Strategic Growth in Asia

Celanese has a long history of business in Asia, including its rapid growth in the region since the opening of its integrated chemical complex in Nanjing, China in 2007. Celanese Emulsions announced late last year that it was expanding its plant in Nanjing to double its vinyl acetate/ethylene (VAE) capacity in the region. "A primary facet of the strategy for Celanese Emulsion Polymers is continued growth in Asia," said Kevin Wu, commercial director for Celanese Emulsions in Asia. "We intend to follow our recent success in China with an increasing presence in the ASEAN region and here in the Indian region," Wu said. "We look forward to partnering with local manufacturers to formulate low odor, high quality paints in the region", Nagpal said.
