CeBIT Australia Eliminates Check-in Queue Using Mobile Ticketing

SYDNEY, May 10 // -- CeBIT Australia 2007, the Australian leg of the world's largest ICT exhibition, rolled out a new mobile ticketing technology for general admission that saw its admission queues for pre-registered patrons completely eliminated at this year's event.

Gone are the days of lining up to get into a conference or an event.

The new mobile-ticket-enabled process reduced the check-in time from more than a minute of manual processing down to less than 10 seconds in an automated self-service system. This process improvement using 10 bCODE Readers eliminated check-in queues for pre-registered patrons, whilst overall admitting more people into this year's event than previous years.

This ticketing option was offered to all pre-registered patrons of the event. If a user chose the bCODE mobile ticketing option, he or she was sent the mobile ticket immediately prior to the event. Upon arrival, the patron simply scanned his or her phone on one of the 10 bCODE Readers to gain admission and receive their personalized conference tag.

CeBIT chose Australian company bCODE, now based in Los Angeles, as their mobile ticketing technology provider. bCODE technology enables any transaction token, such as a ticket or coupon, to be wirelessly sent to more than 99% of the 3 billion existing mobile phones and PDAs in the market today, by using a simple plain-text SMS message. bCODE's Reader then scans this secure bCODE ticket off the phone screen as if it was a barcode. The scanning itself takes less than half a second.

"bCODE was a great new technology to use at CeBIT in 2007. With such a large event, it is important to have a reliable and efficient product, such as this. We have had a good response and am sure that many more visitors will be electing to use mobile ticketing in future as a result of the ease of use of this system." said Jackie Taranto, Managing Director, Hannover Fairs Australia"

CeBIT has experimented with a barcode-based mobile ticketing technology before, but chose bCODE this year due to its ease of use, reliability and ubiquitous device coverage.

The event was the largest mobile-ticketed event in the world to date, in terms of number of successful scans of mobile tickets. bCODE's mobile ticketing technology enabled more than 10,000 mobile-ticket patrons with more than 200 different types of mobile devices to self-scan themselves into the show. The very positive reception by consumers will hopefully see the percentage of mobile-ticketed patrons increase next year.

"We are very pleased to have assisted CeBIT in delivering a better experience for their customers. We believe mobile ticketing and couponing can contribute large economic and process efficiencies across a number of market segments, and look forward to a dozen similar launches across US, EU, Asia and Australia in the coming months," said Michael Mak, CEO of bCODE.

A report by Juniper Research predicts Mobile Ticketing to be a US$38 Billion market by 2009. And another report from Jupiter Research released earlier this year states that 24% of US mobile subscribers would like to receive coupons on their mobile phones.
