CDMA RTU offers remote monitoring where GSM is not available.
Press Release Summary:
With ADU-500L CDMA Data Logger Telemetry System, several transmitters can send information simultaneously over single communication channel, letting several users share band of frequencies. Battery-powered unit incorporates 2 analog inputs measuring at 12-bit resolution, 3 digital inputs, and I2C interface supporting external digital sensors. SMS messages are used for wireless logged data transfer, event-driven alarm messages, and periodic status messages for verifying unit availability.

CAS DataLoggers Introduces New CDMA RTU for Remote Monitoring
Data Logger Telemetry System Monitors and Alarms Where GSM Isn’t Available
CHESTERLAND OH—CAS DataLoggers and Infinite Informatics introduce the new ADU-500L CDMA Data Logger Telemetry System. This autonomous RTU (Remote Telemetry Unit) performs remote monitoring where GSM isn’t available. This new version supports CDMA technology allowing several transmitters to send their information simultaneously over a single communication channel, letting several users share a band of frequencies (i.e. bandwidth). Supporting SMS messaging for data and alarm transmission, this CDMA system is ideal for remote monitoring and control of functions and instrumentation for water management, oil and gas distribution, power network fault monitoring, mining sites, environmental telemetry, irrigation systems, M2M systems, and more.
The ADU-500L is a battery-powered RTU/data logger with wireless data transfer and alarm announcing capabilities. Equipped with an internal CDMA2000 (Verizon/Sprint) wireless modem enabling remote data transmission, the unit incorporates 2 analog inputs measuring at 12 bit resolution, 3 digital inputs, and an I2C interface supporting external digital sensors. The 500L incorporates a step-up converter enabling several sensor excitation options for external sensors. 3 concurrent outputs are available: 12V/200mA (or 9V/250mA), 5V/100mA, and 3.3V/250mA.
An ultra low power microcontroller enables alarm condition detection, subsystem power switching, and overall system control. Indications are provided by 2 LEDs showing status indication and network status.
Quick and easy to install, this compact, lightweight unit incorporates a Lithium Thionyl battery supplying maintenance-free system operation for over 10 years. Additionally, the RTU is rated at IP66 to offer solid protection from dust and moisture.
Remote setup can be accomplished via SMS or locally setup via serial port. Users can set sampling rate, data transfer, configurable alarms and status messages. Modes of operation include power network-independent battery operation and external power adaptor operation for functional parameter setup. During battery-supplied operation, the low power microcontroller periodically switches the sensor excitation for sampling the analog inputs.
Data Logging
The microcontroller periodically scans the digital inputs for data logging and to detect an alarm condition. The digital input alarm condition (closed or open external contact) is user-definable, as are analog input gain, scaling and alarm limits.
Alarm Messaging & Remote Data Transfer
SMS messages are used for logged data transfer, event-driven alarm messages and periodic status messages for verifying unit availability. The unit supports discrete recipient alarming for several users. Alarm message texts are user-definable, and users can configure analog and digital inputs for alarming. Optional alarm delay can range from 1-255 seconds.
Setup and Configuration
The ADU-500L can be configured locally through the serial port or remotely via SMS, using simple ASCII configuration commands. The command set features commands for configuring input alarm parameters, scaling parameters and alarm limits, timing parameters and defining user groups. Remote setup SMS messages are accepted during the periodical message processing.
