Smart Approach Helps X -Ray Screeners to Improve Their Skills with Launch of a New CBT Product
Smart Approach announced today that they have expanded their product range with the introduction of a new computer based training (CBT) product for security checkpoint staff called Smart Object.
Smart Object is an easy to use object recognition interactive training tool which provides x-ray screeners with access to thousands of x-ray images of bags, helping them to build their skills in recognising objects by their x-ray image.
Specifically designed to develop the object recognition skills of novice screeners, Smart Object is a visual product that uses images rather than text so can be used by anyone regardless of their computer skills or language.
Commenting on the new product launch, Managing Director, Mike Ormesher states, "Research into the acquisition of x-ray object recognition skills in new screeners suggests that exposure to large numbers of images improves the performance of the novice screener. We have therefore developed Smart Object to meet this need and to complement our portfolio of existing products which are all aimed at recruiting, training and analysing the performance of x-ray screeners".
Smart Object is available as a stand alone product or as part of an overall screener training programme. It comes with either; 10,000, 15,000 or 20,000 x-ray images of objects and bags which range from easy to complex - all designed to build a screener's competency.
Mike continues, "Our research has highlighted the lack of x-ray correct object recognition products. Many use images of threats that are projected into innocent bags and are not x-ray correct. These leave contextual clues, such as faint lines where the object is which undermine the objectives of training. On the other hand Smart Object uses images of real bags in which threats have been packed prior to scanning and image capture. This guarantees the images are 100% x-ray correct and therefore offers the screener a real chance to improve their invaluable skills".
It is not intended that Smart Object should replace comprehensive training on a fully integrated x-ray simulation package, such as Smart Approach's SmartSystem but it is viewed as a useful tool in the armoury for any organisation with responsibility for training screeners. It is seen as a valuable training package for trainee screeners and with the built-in assessment functionality, a useful refresher for experienced screeners to keep them up to date and at the top of their game.
