Catacel Corp. Names Fuelcellmaterials.com its Global Distribution Partner for Catacel's HEP(TM) Line of High Temperature Heat Exchangers

Standardized product to have immediate impact for fuel cell and hydrogen generation systems developers

February 14, 2008

Lewis Center, Ohio - Catacel Corp., a leading producer of catalyzed foil metal products and fuelcellmaterials.com, a leading provider of products for the fuel cell and hydrogen production industries have entered into an exclusive agreement for distribution of Catacel's patented Heat Exchange Platform (HEP(TM)) product line (U.S. Patent No. D560,276). The HEP is believed to be the first standardized high temperature heat exchanger product manufactured for broad distribution.

The HEP is a cost-effective, foil-based module made of high temperature materials throughout. It can be configured for heat exchange or catalytic reactor applications with an upper use temperature of 900°C. The key advantages are the simple yet effective fabrication methods, the light weight, adaptability to space constraints, scalability from 500 W to 50 kW, and the use of various foil inserts for adapting the HEP to customer requirements without reformatting the basic platform. Additionally, by using catalyst coated inserts the HEP can be used for combined heat transfer/catalysis applications in all types of fuel cells.

According to Jon Foreman, Director of fuelcellmaterials.com, "the HEP product line is an ideal addition to our growing array of products for the fuel cell industry. The HEP fits the needs of our customers as an off-the-shelf yet multi-faceted solution for high temperature heat exchange and reactor design. The replaceable foils offer options for designing and experimenting on multiple configurations for both heat exchange and catalytic applications quickly, easily and with minimal reinvestment. We foresee the HEP being used in systems from brass-board prototypes through full-scale production."

With a volume just over 500 ml, (29 cm long by 4.2 cm square) the HEP is designed to fit compact spaces. Multiple HEP devices can be bundled in a variety of ways to incrementally increase heat exchange to match system size and allow system scale-up without significant redesign.

Five standard foil insert configurations are available for the HEP to optimize pressure drop and heat exchange characteristics and custom foils of most any design can be prepared. Catacel provides services for configuration, catalyst coating, and catalyst/reactor design. Catalyst products for fuel processing, water gas shift and other reactions are available from Catacel and fuelcellmaterials.com. Catalyst materials for other reactions and from other vendors can be discussed and used.

Bill Whittenberger, President of Catacel comments that "Catacel has chosen fuelcellmaterials.com to market the HEP because of its position as a leading fuel cell e-commerce organization. Its customer base includes most if not all the major developers and manufacturers of fuel cells, particularly those commercializing solid oxide fuel cells. We expect its growing network of global distribution to place our product in front of customers quickly. With its high level of technical competence, fuelcellmaterials.com will provide front-line customer service and help Catacel interface with the end users in order to adapt the HEP to their particular requirements.
