Castrol Harnesses Plant Power To Deliver Performance Without Compromise

Today, Castrol announces the launch of Castrol EDGE Bio-Synthetic, a revolutionary new approach to motor oils.

Castrol EDGE Bio-Synthetic uses Castrol's advanced eco-engineering to combine our Fluid Titanium Technology with 25 percent renewable plant-based materials to deliver a motor oil that is both Titanium strong and more environmentally friendly than ever before.

Castrol EDGE Bio-Synthetic motor oil will also be certified carbon neutral, with the CO2 footprint associated with the production, packaging, distribution and storage of the product offset through BP Target Neutral.

Tony Smith, Castrol Senior Advisor for claims and demonstrations, said "A revolutionary new product for our industry, Castrol EDGE Bio-Synthetic delivers 100 percent of the Castrol EDGE performance our customers are accustomed to, combined with our advanced bio-technology to protect engines and reduce the environmental impact of their engine oil."

Consumer research carried out for Castrol revealed that 18 percent of consumers in the USA care passionately about the environment and seek out products which offer benefits, such as the use of renewable resources, but without compromising performance.

Today's engine technology is focused on delivering increased power and efficiency, meaning that engines work harder and under higher pressures than ever before. The only thing keeping metal engine components apart and preventing wear is a thin film of oil. So, that oil needs to be stronger than ever.

Castrol's technologists have harnessed the natural lubricating properties of plants to create an oil that combines the high level of performance required by today's car engines with the use of renewable sources by using 25 percent plant-derived oil compounds.

Castrol EDGE Bio-Synthetic exceeds the fuel economy performance criteria set by the American Petroleum Institute (API SN) and the International Lubricants Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC GF-5). The 25 percent bio content is endorsed on pack by the USDA Certified Biobased Product label.

The Castrol EDGE Bio-Synthetic range includes 1Qt and 5Qt sizes and viscosity grades that cover the great majority of cars in the US. It will be available to purchase via Amazon and selected outlets from January 2017.
