New HyPerformance Valves for Reliable 5000 psi Application

HydraForce's new HyPerformance(TM) high-pressure cartridge valves offer continuous operating pressures to 350 bar and intermittent pressures as high as 420 bar.
In order to assist equipment manufacturers in meeting increased demands for enhanced vehicle performance, higher system efficiencies and improved environmental compliance, HydraForce is releasing a new line of HyPerformance(TM) cartridge valves. These valves will target the construction, paving, agriculture, material handling, forestry, industrial and other high-performance markets.

The new H-Series HyPerformance valves are designed to facilitate reliable and continuous operating pressures as high as 350 bar and 420 bar, intermittent. HydraForce will offer a complete line of these valves by 2012. When the line is complete, it will cover a range from the common -10 cavity to a metric -42 cavity with flow ratings to 530 lpm and will be available in a variety of valve configurations, including solenoid (poppet and spool), electro-proportional, directional, flow, and pressure control types.

To accommodate the elevated pressures, the HyPerformance valves incorporate a modified standard cavity with a bottom shoulder to support the valve cage. A retainer ring is used to connect the adapter to the cage (see figure 1). This design strengthens the pressure-holding capability of the cartridge and allows for higher torque without fear of twisting and binding of the cage during installation.

Sealing is another critical aspect of high-pressure components, and the H-Series valves utilize high-strength, high temperature-rated, single-piece PPDI urethane seals for greater reliability under heavy-duty cycle conditions. This eliminates the need for backup rings, though fluorocarbon seals with Teflon backup rings are available as an option. The H-Series valves also have installation torques of three to four times that of the standard screw-in cartridges, which further enhances sealing and prevents back out under heavy cyclic, high-pressure operations.

The H-Series valves have under gone extensive verification and assurance testing. These valves conform to the NFPA's T2.6.1 standard with an assurance level of 99% and a verification level of 90%, which is among the highest testing levels performed industry wide for these types of valves. The H-Series valves were endurance tested for 1 million cycles at 350 bar, with pressure excursions to 420 bar for 10% of the duty cycle. The values were fatigue tested for 2 million cycles at 420 bar and burst pressure tested to 13,800 bar.

The solenoid coils, which are designed for continuous operation at ±15% of rated voltage, are IP69K rated and have undergone testing under severe application conditions including thermal shock, vibration, water immersion, dust, high-pressure cleaning, heavy load cycling and humidity. The coils and stem tubes were vibration tested to 20 GRMS and they provide 1000-hour salt spray protection against red rust corrosion.

HydraForce's ever-expanding product line and manifold expertise enables a system designer to optimize flexibility in their hydraulic integrated circuit designs for the next generation of high performance machines.

With the exception of the bottom shoulder, the cavity profile is the same as any standard HydraForce valve. This allows cavity standardization as standard HydraForce valves can be used in the H-Series cavity.
