Storage Solutions at the Ready with Inova's Latest Carrier Board



HYANNIS, MA., March 22, 2002 - Inova Computers, Inc. introduces a multi-purpose 3U mass storage extension board to plug into a single slot and house a variety of drives. Inova's IPM-ATA is a 3U carrier board that can be utilized for any combination of IDE 2.5" hard drives, microdrives, or more ruggedized solid-state IDE FLASH or Compact FLASH drives. Applications include: Embedded Systems; Robotics; Military; Environmental Management; Energy Management; Industrial Control and Automation; Traffic and
Transportation; Medical; Multiprocessing Environments.

Up to two devices, configured as master and slave, may be plugged into the IPM-ATA. A length of standard IDE ribbon cable connects the IPM-ATA to the rear I/O transition module of the Inova master rear I/O CompactPCI backplane connector, where the embedded single board computer's secondary channel of the IDE controller featured in all Inova CompactPCI SBCs addresses it. Configuring the mass storage devices in this way allows the operating system and/or application software to be exchanged without having to disassemble the 19" assembly. A further benefit is the ability to position the IPM-ATA almost anywhere
within the CompactPCI rack - a real plus if air circulation is an issue.
