New Datacard Card Counting System Brings Security and Accountability to High-Volume Card Programs

Advanced system verifies card counts 30 times in two seconds

Paris, France - November 18, 2003 -Datacard Group introduced a sophisticated card counting system today that allows card issuers to greatly enhance security, accountability and accuracy in their card operations. The company debuted the Datacard(TM) Snooper(TM) SQ45 card counting system today at CARTES 2003 in Paris.

The system uses a high-resolution camera to count full or partially full boxes of cards in approximately two seconds. The results are verified up to 30 times for accuracy, then immediately displayed on a digital screen. Results may also be printed in a report or on an adhesive label.

The system accommodates a wide variety of card materials - including ABS, PVC, PET, PC PETG, polyester and paper - and accurately counts blank, printed, white core embossed, flat clear, magnetic stripe, embedded, lenticular, black core, shiny silver particle, GSM and multi-layer cards. It also counts both contact and contactless smart cards, thin cards, tickets and some non-ISO standard cards.

"This is a powerful solution for protecting card stock, driving efficiency and improving the accuracy of inventory systems," said Mike Schnaus, vice president of marketing and corporate development for Datacard Group. "It's compact and easy to use, so card issuers can set it up and use it virtually anywhere, with minimal training."

The high-speed camera technology counts visually, so no part of the system ever touches the card stock helping to prevent scratches and abrasions. The absence of moving parts also enhances system reliability and minimizes service requirements.

"We expect this new system to be extremely popular with service bureaus and in-house card issuance operations in a variety of markets, including banking, Pay TV, healthcare, telecommunications, retail and transportation," Schnaus said.
