Carbide Cutters & New Kit Package for Tough Holemaking Applications

Hougen Manufacturing, North America's leading producer of portable holemaking equipment demonstrated at the 2006 IMTS Show the holemaking capabilities of its latest annular cutting tool series-the CopperheadTM Carbide Tip Annular Cutters. Plus, the company introduced the availability of these rugged toolmakers in a convenient kit packaging (Part # 18002) that offers five cutters in a tough plastic case with nested space to safeguard each tool.

The Copperhead series of tools are presented in thirteen sizes from 9/16" thru and up to 1-1/2" diameter, and for holemaking to 2" depth of cut. They are designed for use with Hougen's various models of portable magnetic drills, and feature carbide tip cutting edges brazed onto a steel body, providing greater wear resistance and greater productivity in tough drilling applications involving high Brinnell hardness alloys or abrasive cast irons. The tools also incorporate a special tool geometry that helps maintain better chip flow as compared to other tool configurations.

The Copperhead Cutter Kit includes cutters in sizes 9/16, 11/16, 13/16, 15/16 and a
1-1/16" diameter along with two (2) centering pilots and two (2) wrenches for mounting in arbors. The Copperhead tools feature a dual flat shank and, in addition to use in portable magnetic drills, may be employed, with a spindle adapter, in stationary drill presses, lathes and machining centers. The tools are resharpenable to provide even longer service life and each tool undergoes a special surface treatment, which gives them a distinct color and, consequently, the Copperhead designation.

In addition to the new Copperhead carbide tip annular cutters, Hougen Manufacturing provides machine shops, fabricators, erection and installation crews, and maintenance personnel with a wide range of holemaking equipment, including 14 models of portable magnetic drills with capacities to 3-1/16" diameter thru materials up to 3" thick-or compact magnetic drills measuring just 6-11/16" high that fit in the tightest locations. Other products offered include a wide assortment of magnetic drill accessories that broaden their application potential, plus heavy-duty cutters for machining applications, cutters for holemaking in sheet metal and plate, and Punch-Pro Electro-hydraulic Hole Punchers.
