Phihong Makes Installing Outdoor PoE Cameras Easier...

Phihong Develops Camera Installation Tool

Fremont, CA - Phihong, a global leader in Power-over-Ethernet solutions, has developed a unique device to aid in the installation of PoE-enabled security cameras. Designated the POE-CIT-R, the pocket-sized unit acts as a redirect for the power and data flow between the camera and the Power-over-Ethernet power supply for local access to the camera output for troubleshooting and is small enough to be added to any IT professional's key ring.

"PoE enables users to power devices in hard-to-reach locations, and with Phihong's new camera installation tool, IT professionals can locally troubleshoot the device while installing cameras, viewing the camera output from a netbook and optimizing camera angles without having to run up and down ladders," said Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA.

The POE-CIT has three RJ45 ports: one for network input from a PoE-enabled switch or midspan; another for Ethernet connection to the PoE camera; and a third for Ethernet connection to a portable device such as a laptop or netbook. Power from the midspan is injected through the POE-CIT to the camera, while the data flow back from the Camera is diverted to the third port into the laptop. This allows a technician to monitor the camera angles without needing an assistant or having to constantly check a screen located up to 100 meters away.

Diagnostic LEDs will illuminate to verify connection to a valid PoE load, which enables users to test Ethernet cables for the presence of PoE before connecting to an intended device. The "Power" LED will illuminate if connected to any valid PoE load with 25K detection which includes IEEE802.3af and IEEE802.3at standard injectors and select higher power midspans with the ability to step down power to the "at" standard. The "IEEE802.3at" LED will only illuminate if a valid 802.3at load is detected and connected. Therefore, the device not only detects power on an Ethernet cable which origins may be tens of meters away through walls but also detects what type of PoE.

In the event that PoE is not available, the device features a DC IN jack enabling users to connect a traditional AC-DC adapter to power the camera.

The POE-CIT-R measures 64mm x 36.5mm x 24mm and weighs 30 grams. For more information including product datasheets and manuals, please visit the Phihong PoE accessories page at www.phihong.com/html/extenders_and_accessories.html.
