Caliper Introduces New Automation Offerings Paired with ACES Team

- New Ensemble and Reprise Systems Integrate Technologies from Multiple Vendors -

HOPKINTON, Mass., Jan. 23 / -- Caliper Life Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ:CALP) today introduced its new Ensemble and Reprise integrated systems, the first products conceived by its new Automation, Consulting, Engineering & Services (ACES) team. Unlike Caliper's industry leading Staccato systems, which feature primarily Caliper instruments and software, Ensemble and Reprise are two new classes of systems that deliver integrated solutions irrespective of vendor. The offerings allow customers to leverage existing and new investments in technology from multiple vendors to build best-in-class solutions meeting specific research needs.

Ensemble systems integrate newly-purchased instruments, robots and software from a variety of vendors, allowing for vendor-neutral, customized automation solutions. By allowing users to design their systems using any liquid handler, robot mover, scheduling software and peripheral instrument available, Ensemble systems uniquely reflect each customer's definition of a "best-in-class" solution.

Reprise systems, on the other hand, integrate instruments already owned by a laboratory, repurposing them into fully automated solutions to address new workflows. With the consolidation trend and recent industry mergers and acquisitions, there is an excess of automation equipment at many biotech, pharmaceutical and academic R&D labs. By uniquely offering the skill, vision and ability to re-integrate existing tools, Caliper helps customers revive past investments to develop new systems that meet pressing research needs.

"Caliper's Reprise and Ensemble systems are unique in the industry," said Kevin Keras, Business Unit Manager, ACES, Caliper Life Sciences. "No other technology provider with Caliper's depth of strategic insight, technological expertise and customer intimacy offers customers the opportunity to build best-in-class solutions that meet their specific research needs and leverage existing technology investments."

Caliper's ACES team provides guidance throughout Ensemble and Reprise system creation, helping to specify, design, implement and support optimum configurations regardless of manufacturer. Caliper offers worldwide scientific and technical support services from an expertly staffed global network of subsidiaries and distributors.

Ensemble and Reprise integrated systems are available today, along with Caliper's existing Staccato offering. Caliper will be showcasing these solutions at LabAutomation2008, January 27 - 29, 2008 in Palm Springs, California at booth #319.
