NX Nastran Now Available from EDS PLM Solutions; Development Organization Expanded with Addition of Leading Technology Experts

EDS PLM Solutions validates commitment to high-growth CAE market with infusion of world-renowned Nastran experts supporting key NX Nastran initiative

Industry analyst praises immediate benefits of NX Nastran and EDS PLM Solutions' "highly respected PLM software development organization"

PLANO, Texas - EDS PLM Solutions today announced the immediate availability of NX Nastran, its new world-class digital simulation and analysis software targeted at the high-growth computer-aided engineering analysis (CAE) market. EDS PLM Solutions also announced today the addition of three leading technology experts to its software development organization in support of NX Nastran.

Nastran, the world's most widely used finite-element analysis (FEA) software, was previously available only from MSC.Software Corporation as MSC.Nastran. With today's availability of NX Nastran from EDS PLM Solutions, the industry now has an advanced alternative from a supplier committed to the long-term viability, support and enhancement of this popular solution.

Open approach; immediate customer benefit

"Today's announcement provides further evidence of EDS PLM Solutions' unique 'open approach' to the problems of product lifecycle management (PLM)," said Monica Schnitger, senior vice president of Market Analysis at Daratech, Inc., a leading PLM industry market research and technology assessment firm in Cambridge, Mass. "NX Nastran has the ability to provide immediate benefit to any product development organization, regardless of the CAD system they use. The addition of NX Nastran (to EDS PLM Solutions' product suite) combined with EDS PLM Solutions' established leadership in the areas of multi-CAD finite element modeling and simulation-results visualization, firmly positions EDS PLM Solutions in a CAE market leadership position."

"EDS PLM Solutions' highly respected PLM software development organization today leads the way in developing exciting new tools for integrated design environments in which results of analyses are introduced into product design processes at a very early stage," Schnitger said. "The synergies between NX and EDS PLM Solutions' field-proven and scaleable Teamcenter® PLM portfolio will enable customers to immediately leverage legacy Nastran data, as well as other CAE results, as an integral part of their new product development process. This strong combination of customer-centric analytical tools and knowledge-based data management solutions offers companies the opportunity to realize significant product performance and quality gains through the use of integrated digital prototyping and simulation."

Raising the stakes in a growing market

NX Nastran targets the growing CAE market, which will continue to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 10.3 percent through 2007, according to Daratech. It is widely used to digitally analyze products in industries including aerospace, automotive, electronics, medical and heavy machinery.

"The CAE market is critical to EDS PLM Solutions, and we intend to expand and sustain our leadership position," said Tony Affuso, president, EDS PLM Solutions. "We demonstrated our commitment to this market when we announced our intention to enhance, sell and support NX Nastran and today as we begin shipping the software, we are making good on that commitment. In fact, with the addition of three world-class CAE experts to our development organization we are further raising the stakes in this growing market."
