CAE Software serves metal casting marketplace.

Press Release Summary:

Arena-flow v5.5 includes transient curing model that simulates progression of catalyst curing front as it passes through cold-box sand core. Users can specify various process conditions to optimize tooling designs. With this software, core-making cycle times can be minimized in virtual environment prior to production of cold-box tooling. Several grid generator options promote functional control, while error-checking algorithm detects and corrects user input errors.

Ashland Releases New Arena-Flow Version 5.5 Computer-Aided Engineering Software Upgrade

DUBLIN, Ohio - Taking a virtual look into sand core-making and tooling design just got better thanks to several innovations released in the new Arena-flow version 5.5 computer-aided engineering software from Ashland Casting Solutions, a business group of Ashland Specialty Chemical, a division of Ashland Inc. (NYSE: ASH).

A new proprietary transient curing model has been added to the software. This feature simulates the progression of the catalyst curing front as it passes through a cold-box sand core. Users can specify various process conditions such as amount of catalyst, gassing pressures, gassing times and more to optimize tooling designs. Core-making cycle times can be minimized in a virtual environment prior to the production of expensive cold-box tooling, significantly reducing start-up times and costs.

In addition to the new curing model, users will find marked improvements in several core blowing models. First introduced in Arena-Flow version 5.0, additional advanced grid generator options have been added to give users extensive functional control. New logic upgrades have also been added to Arena-flow version 5.5 to check for allowable settings in order to maintain high accuracy and minimal mesh sensitivity.

"Each of these enhancements has resulted in reductions in set-up and processing times while improving simulation accuracy," said Nigel Yeomans, Ashland Casting Solutions project engineer.

No software upgrade is complete without making the software more user friendly, and Arena-flow version 5.5 meets that challenge by adding a new smart interface. The software will now detect and correct user input errors thanks to an enhanced error-checking algorithm.

Arena-flow technology was developed by Arena, LLC of Albuquerque, N.M., in conjunction with General Motors, NASA, the Department of Energy and most recently, Ashland Casting Solutions. Arena-flow computer-aided engineering software technology can be accessed by software license agreements as well as contract engineering projects conducted in Ashland Casting Solution's Design Services Center.
