Early reviews praise EDS' progress on integrated NX strategy

September 23 webcast to showcase how NX 2 technology can effect business transformation through innovative product development

PLANO, Texas - EDS today announced the immediate availability of Unigraphics® NX 2, the latest version of its next generation integrated computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE) software.

Business transformation and value creation

Launched in May 2003, Unigraphics NX 2 is part of EDS' NX portfolio of software solutions that enables companies to simplify and streamline product development by incorporating their own unique processes, best practices and knowledge into product design and manufacturing. By effectively capturing, sharing and leveraging product knowledge throughout the digital product development process, NX delivers a proven strategic advantage and creates value for the companies who use it.

"One of our goals at EDS is to provide market-leading technology solutions targeted at reducing decision complexity in product development," said Chuck Grindstaff, president of PLM Products, EDS PLM Solutions. "This goal is at the heart of our NX strategy and NX 2 delivers key elements of that strategy. In order to achieve real business transformation through innovative product development, companies will increasingly turn toward solutions that allow them to capture repeatable processes and reuse that knowledge to validate design decisions earlier in the cycle. NX 2 is the technology leader in automated validation enabling our clients to improve quality, drive innovation and create competitive advantages."

Unigraphics NX 2 also includes significant advances in product and assembly design, integrated digital simulation, industrial design, automotive styling, complex milling and integrated machine tool simulation. NX 2 further extends integration across the NX portfolio with easier user interaction and navigation, structural and motion analysis tools now integrated with NX Knowledge Fusion, and management of extended CAM, CAE and I-deas NX Series data in Teamcenter®, EDS' industry leading product lifecycle management (PLM) portfolio.

Industry insiders weigh in on NX 2

Unigraphics NX 2 is the latest step in EDS' NX strategy to unify two of the world's leading CAD/CAM/CAE software offerings - Unigraphics and I-deas - into a single world-class solution that protects its clients' investments in software, training and data. EDS' progress with this unprecedented project has resonated with several industry watchers:

· "What is really impressive is the manner in which [Unigraphics NX 2] functionality has been dramatically improved, but at the same time, ease of use seems to share center stage in development priorities, and as such, is extremely impressive," said Al Dean, in a product review written for MCAD magazine, July/August 2003.

· "Unigraphics NX 2 continues to deliver on EDS' promise of digital decision making and knowledge driven innovation to help users improve their product development process," said Ken Versprille, research director, D. H. Brown Associates, Inc. "NX 2 offers advancements across a key range of technologies including knowledge capture for structural and motion analysis, integrated digital simulation, collaboration, and reduced modeling complexity that will allow users to design and deliver tangible value to their customers."

· In a product review published by Cadalyst magazine, in July 2003, Mark Huxley said, "Whether you are a designer, engineer, analyst or machinist, NX 2 will offer you an extensive line of tools to quickly and reliably perform your duties. Last year's release of NX was a dramatic step, and NX 2 represents equally substantial progress."

· Evan Yares vice president and chief technology officer, Cyon Research sums up his assessment as follows: "NX2 is Interesting not because it is the endpoint of a journey, but because it is a waypoint - a place where we can stop and evaluate EDS' progress. EDS undertook this journey not just to join two legacy product lines, but also to create something much more compelling: a system that is greater than the sum of its parts; a system that truly supports innovation in product development. My sense is that, for many users, Unigraphics NX 2 may represent a 'tipping point' - a point at which it goes from being an interesting idea on which they are reserving judgment, to a solution worthy of their investment."
