CacheLogic and BitTorrent Announce Strategic Partnership to Advance the Adoption of Peer-Assisted Content Delivery

Cache Discovery Protocol Offers High-Speed Downloads and Reduced Costs for ISPs

CAMBRIDGE, England and SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 7 // -- CacheLogic, the market leader in peer-to-peer (P2P) caching solutions for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and BitTorrent, developer of the world's leading peer-assisted file distribution platform, announced today a key strategic partnership to further enable the widespread adoption of P2P technology as a distribution network for commercial video and other rich digital content.

Most notable in this collaboration is the development of the Cache Discovery Protocol (CDP) -- an open-source protocol that ISPs can utilize to mitigate the burden of BitTorrent traffic in an era marked by heightened awareness of network neutrality. CDP will enable BitTorrent client software to automatically discover and take advantage of caching devices within an ISP's network to significantly accelerate the delivery of legitimate content whilst reducing costs.

The protocol greatly simplifies the deployment of CacheLogic's P2P Management Solution, negating the need for expensive, inline hardware deployments or legacy packet inspection technologies, which are alternative approaches to managing P2P traffic.

"BitTorrent continues to gather momentum as one of the leading distribution technologies for rich media and its impact on the ISP networks is becoming increasingly important. Through our close working relationship with BitTorrent and the benefits of CDP technology, ISPs now have a simple way of reducing their traffic levels and improving the quality of experience for their end-users. Equally, content owners can continue to utilize BitTorrent for distribution whilst experiencing greater download speeds and increased quality of service for their customers" said Andrew Parker, CTO at CacheLogic.

"CacheLogic has developed an innovative solution to address a major problem that all ISPs face with respect to network congestion. Today, people use the Internet for many bandwidth-intensive services and consumers are increasingly aware of the quality of service needed for their favourite applications," said Ashwin Navin, President and Co-founder of BitTorrent. "With the popularity of BitTorrent usage worldwide, ISP networks are being taxed in a way they weren't designed for. As a remedy to this, the Cache Discovery Protocol is providing carriers with an economical and scalable solution that improves the end-user experience for applications that consumers are growing to love."

About CacheLogic

CacheLogic provides a suite of complementary products that deliver traffic management and network intelligence solutions to the Internet Service Provider and telecommunications sectors. CacheLogic's core products provide carrier-grade solutions that enable ISPs to achieve significant cost savings through the intelligent management of Peer-to-Peer traffic across their networks, without affecting the end-user experience. In January 2004 CacheLogic set up its analysis network to provide traffic analysis from within the ISP networks across the Globe. The network ensures CacheLogic maintains leadership in understanding the changing nature of traffic across the Internet and, in particular, its impact upon Service Provider networks.

Today through its proven track record, market-leading P2P management solution and its commitment to research and development, CacheLogic is considered the leading authority in its field. CacheLogic is currently working with a number of Digital Rights Holders and Broadcasters on their strategies for the distribution of legitimate video content using P2P technologies.
