Original Press Release:

Ideal Industries Launches World's First True CAT 7 Cable Tester & New Fiber Accessories

SYCAMORE, ILLINOIS, February 8, 2002 -- Ideal Industries, Inc., one of the world's largest manufacturers and suppliers of quality tools, connectors, and testing products for the electrical and data communications markets, today announced the launch of the LANTEK(R) 7, the world's first cable tester fully compliant with the emerging Category 7/ ISO F standards. This is the industry's only tester capable of certifying up to 750 MHz. The company also announced the introduction of the LANTEK(R) 6, a fully compliant Category 6/ ISO E cable tester with a frequency range up to 350 MHz. Both new testers offer the industry's most advanced fiber options.

To complement the two LANTEK testers, Ideal will introduce a variety of fiber accessories. These include signal loss, length, and delay measurement kits for both Singlemode (SM) and Multimode (MM) fiber, and an advanced troubleshooting option that will trace fiber runs and report distance to events. Ideal's new fiber accessories also allow installers to generate and store detailed reports.

'For the past several years we've seen significant changes in the level of network sophistication,' commented Robert N. Lane, Ideal Industries' chief executive officer. 'Businesses are increasing their bandwidth requirements and converging multiple mediums to stay competitive and provide higher levels of service and communication. No other testing products provider has stepped forward to offer real solutions. That's why we developed two new testers along with unprecedented accessories. With the new LANTEK line we can address current U.S. and European system requirements, and offer our customers certification solutions for their ever-evolving networks,' he added.

Certifying installations up to 750 MHz, the LANTEK 7 is specifically designed for high bandwidth environments that utilize Gigabit Ethernet and data/voice/video convergence applications. Graphic design, publishing, engineering and medical environments are prime for this new tester because they typically require high speed systems capable of quickly transferring extremely large files. These are the first testers to allow electrical and data communications professionals to operate in such high speed environments. With a testing frequency range of 350 MHz, the LANTEK 6 shares the same productivity enhancing features as the LANTEK 7 and is fully upgradeable to the LANTEK 7.

Both new testers share several industry-leading enhancements, including:
...High definition 1/4 VGA color display for easy interpretation of results
...Full function PCMCIA slot for compact flash storage allows virtually unlimited test storage.
...USB port allows tests to be quickly and directly uploaded to the PC
...Advanced user interface, including context sensitive help, for improved productivity
...LANTEK Reporter PC software supports graphs for report customization
...Remote unit can initiate auto tests for improved productivity in one-person operations
...Remote unit has two-line black and white display supplying test progress and results

Another innovation included in both testers is a unique link adapter scheme, which offers numerous benefits to the user. Because there are no bulky adapters extending from the unit, it is extremely user - friendly and compact. All the adapters fit securely inside the case. This distinguishing feature also significantly reduces the unit's lifetime cost of ownership because users can replace patch cords, should they ever wear out, rather than the entire link assembly.

The two new cable testers will be available for volume shipping during the first quarter of 2002. The LANTEK 6 is competitively priced at $5,995 and the LANTEK 7 is offered at a list price of $6,995. Both testers include a two-year warranty. To order Ideal's new testers, installers should contact their local manufacturers representative to find a distributor. Distributors should contact their local Ideal sales representative to learn more about these exciting new products.
