Motorola Extends its MOTOwi4 Canopy(TM) Product Line with the Addition of the New Canopy(TM) Lite Subscriber Module

Enables low-cost deployment of wireless broadband services

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Jan. 17-- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) introduced its Canopy Lite subscriber module (SM), the newest addition to the company's MOTOwi4 Canopy wireless broadband product lineup. The new SM is part of the field-proven Canopy system and is designed to deliver affordable, always-on wireless Internet connectivity, ideal for applications such as e-mail, web browsing and Voice over IP (VoIP).

The Canopy Lite SM will allow initial data throughputs of up to 512 Kilobits per second (Kbps). The 5.7 GHz modules are available now, and other frequencies are expected during 2006. The Canopy Lite SM is available in convenient 25-packs, providing a manufacturer's suggested retail price of US$200 per module.

"This is exciting news for network operators who are searching for a way to grow their business beyond the enterprise market into the lucrative residential arena," said Tom Hulsebosch, senior director of sales and marketing for Motorola's Canopy Wireless Broadband Group. "The Canopy Lite solution provides an opportunity to offer low-cost, relatively fast-speed connectivity that can grow with users' needs."

The new offering is especially attractive to users in areas where dialup connections are inadequate or nonexistent. This is particularly true in developing markets where consistent, reliable service is often not available.

The Canopy Lite subscriber modules will be deployed with the Canopy Advantage(TM) access points, creating opportunities for operators to offer a wide range of wireless broadband services. Using the same fundamental attributes such as scalability and industry-leading interference tolerance, the Canopy Advantage platform is a multi-services platform that scales to mass deployment levels. Like all Advantage subscriber modules, the Canopy Lite SM allows for the addition of new features through simple software downloads. Canopy Lite throughputs can be increased from 512 Kbps up to 7 Mbps using the software upgrades which are also expected during 2006. These faster speeds will accommodate a myriad of applications, like video or VoIP applications.
