ERNI Extends SMC Series with Board-on SMT IDC Cable Connector
Moraga, CA - April 7, 2003 - The ERNI Group of Companies extended its popular SMC series with the release of a new connector in SMT technology with a 1.27 mm pitch to provide an efficient and reliable connection from the board to external cables. The new connector enables the connection between a PCB and an IDC ribbon cable with just one component. The ribbon cable is quick and easy to assemble with application tools specifically developed for this purpose. The new SMT cable connector for board-IDC cable connection is available in 12, 26, and 50 pin versions.
The Board-on SMT IDC connector with a pick and place cover and tape-and-reel packaging is designed for fully automatic SMT placement. The connector is manufactured in a high temperature black thermoplastic material, which is ideal for SMT reflow soldering.
There are only three stages to the simple installation process:
o The connector is placed fully automatically onto the SMT module and soldered using the SMT reflow soldering process
o The ribbon cable is pre-formed in the cable routing
o The pre-formed cable routing module is put onto the connector; the assembly is completed with the application tool.
