Cable Assemblies offer perpendicular mating capability.

Press Release Summary:

Targeting telecom, datacom, and computer markets, PRIZM(TM) LightTurn(TM) Cable Assemblies use low-profile connectors from US Conec Ltd that mate to Avago Technologies' MicroPOD(TM) 120 Gbps board-mounted parallel optic modules. Perpendicular mating allows for tight spacing of modules and facilitates cable management since modules can be aligned in rows. Mated on top of modules, multi-fiber ribbon cable assemblies also optimize airflow on PCBs.

Low-profile connectors provide improved airflow and cable management for the telecom, datacom and computercom markets

LISLE, Ill. - Molex Incorporated (NASDAQ: MOLX and MOLXA) announced today the availability of PRIZM(TM) LightTurn(TM) cable assemblies, using the low-profile connectors from US Conec Ltd. that mate to Avago Technologies' new MicroPODTM 120 Gbps board mounted parallel optic modules. The Prizm LightTurn's perpendicular mating capability improves airflow and cable management as well as increases real-estate opportunities on dense printed circuit boards (PCB).

Molex provides the multi-fiber cable assembly termination expertise and assembly capabilities for this next-generation solution. "By combining Molex's PRIZM LightTurn cable assemblies with Molex's high-density front panel and blindmate backplane interconnects we are able to offer our customers the most diverse end-to-end solutions," said Tom Schiltz, product manager, Multi Fiber Products, Molex Incorporated. "The unique perpendicular mating of the PRIZM LightTurn connector to Avago's MicroPOD module is an improvement over current parallel optical modules used in the telecom, datacom and emerging high speed computercom markets."

The perpendicular mating allows for the tight spacing of modules and improved cable management because the parallel optical modules can be aligned in rows. The multi-fiber ribbon cable assemblies are mated on top of the modules, providing improved airflow on the PCB. By using 12-, 24-, 48-, and 72-fiber MT ferrules, PRIZM LightTurn 12 fiber ribbon fiber cables can be mated to Molex's high density interconnects including HBMT?, Array Connector and Circular MT connectors.

The connectors will be displayed at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC) and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC), booth #2021, March 23- 25.

PRIZM LightTurn cable assemblies manufactured by Molex have been validated by US Conec to meet the functional requirements of the Avago module. For more information, please visit www.molex.com/product/prizmlightturncables.html.
