CA Offers New Unicenter Database Command Center at No Charge to Help DBAs Simplify Management of Multiple RDBMS

Browser-Based Solution Improves Service Levels and Cuts Costs Across Windows, Linux, UNIX and Mainframe Platforms

ISLANDIA, N.Y., April 24 /FirstCall/ -- CA (NYSE:CA) today announced it is making its new Unicenter Database Command Center (Unicenter DCC) available at no charge to help DBAs unify and simplify management of multiple databases across disparate platforms. In this way, CA also is giving customers first-hand experience with the benefits of unified cross-platform RDBMS management while whetting customers' appetites for more advanced CA database management solutions that are fully integrated with the DCC.

>From a single browser-based user interface, Unicenter DCC enables DBAs to perform a variety of administration tasks across DB2 Universal Database (UDB) for Linux, UNIX, and Windows, DB2 UDB for z/OS, Oracle, and Ingres. By providing a consistent look-and-feel across all platforms, Unicenter DCC helps to optimize DBA productivity and reduce costs.

The proliferation of enterprise databases -- compounded by the growing use of enterprise resource planning and other applications -- has made the cost and complexity of database management a central challenge for IT.

"With an ever-increasing number of databases being supported by enterprises, the need for unified administration is growing," stated Noel Yuhanna, senior analyst, Forrester Research. "Some very large enterprises have more than 10,000 enterprise-class DBMSes and more than 300 database administrators managing the environment. Enterprises want a unified solution to simplify administration, reduce cost, and improve operational efficiency."

Polaris Technologies, a provider of software configuration management training, implementation, and consulting services, is leveraging Unicenter DCC to more effectively and efficiently manage its multi-platform database environment. The company also uses several complementary CA database management and modeling products, including Unicenter Database Performance Management, Unicenter Log Analyzer, Unicenter SQL-Station, and AllFusion ERwin Data Modeler.

"Rapid access to reliable data is critical to our business," said Dale Ross, senior database consultant for Polaris. "CA's Unicenter Database Command Center has made life much simpler for our administrators, so they can quickly perform core administrative tasks across UNIX and Windows environments through a single, centralized application."

Unicenter DCC delivers a wide range of high-value administrative capabilities including centralized schema management-which allows DBAs to create, alter, and rename objects specific to each type of database from a common interface. It also delivers unified cross-platform account management for granting and revoking access privileges and assigning user roles. It also provides robust data unload and reorganization functionality for Ingres, enabling DBAs to re-optimize databases that have become fragmented due to inserts, updates, and deletes.

In addition, Unicenter DCC provides a common interface for accessing the other advanced products in CA's Unicenter Database Management r11 suite, including:

* Unicenter Fast Unload for DB2 UDB LUW: High speed data unloading for DB2
UDB for Linux, UNIX, and Windows databases improves availability of
corporate data by reducing the time for unloading and moving DB2 data.

* Unicenter Fast Unload for Oracle: High speed data unloading for Oracle
databases improves availability of corporate data by reducing the time
for unloading and moving Oracle data.

* Unicenter TSreorg for Oracle: Online and offline Oracle database
reorganization improves efficiency of Oracle databases by recovering
wasted space and restructuring objects that have become fragmented due
to data inserts, updates and deletions.

"IT organizations are being asked to deliver higher levels of service in increasingly complex database environments, without being given proportional increases in their budgets," said David Schipper, vice president of product management at CA. "By unifying and simplifying the management of these multiple RDBMS, CA is significantly improving the productivity of database administrators and enabling them to successfully overcome their resource limitations."

CA is demonstrating its new Unicenter DCC and related database management products at Collaborate 06, the technology and applications forum for the Oracle community this week in Nashville, TN.
