CA Announces Day One Support for IBM's z/VSE 4.1

CA to Accept IBM Usage Reports for Subcapacity Pricing

ISLANDIA, N.Y., March 16 /- CA (NYSE:CA) today announced "day one" support for z/VSE 4.1 across its industry-leading line of mainframe software solutions -- continuing its strong record of support for new releases of IBM System z operating systems.

CA solutions for z/VSE v4.1 empower IT organizations to optimize utilization of data center resources, reduce total cost of ownership, align utilization with business value, secure and protect the integrity of resources, and quickly respond to evolving enterprise computing requirements. Solutions supporting z/VSE 4.1 include CA Explore Performance Management, CA Dynam storage management solutions, the CA Datacom and CA IDMS families of database products, CA FAQS automation solutions, and CA Top Secret for security management.

"We're planning to upgrade to z/VSE 4.1 later this year so that we can reap its performance benefits," said Larry Eckblad, executive vice president at FirstBank Data Corporation, the centralized operations subsidiary for the FirstBank Holding Company. "Thanks to CA's immediate support for this upgrade, we can move ahead with our plans with the confidence that we will have all the management capabilities we need to make the transition a smooth one."

CA participated in IBM's vendor program for z/VSE 4.1, which operates in z/Architecture mode and is designed to support 64-bit real addressing and up to 8 GB of real processor storage. With this release, IBM is also introducing Midrange Workload License Charges (MWLC) for z/VSE 4. CA will accept usage reports generated by IBM's reporting facility for use with CA's own Measured Workload Pricing program, which bases licensing costs on measured system usage -- rather than total potential hardware capacity -- enabling customers to more closely align IT spending with changing business requirements.

"CA continues to stay with IBM step-for-step as we both seek to help our mutual customers cope with escalating pressures on processing capacity and IT budgets," said Mark Combs, senior vice president and general manager at CA. "Our embrace of MWLC for z/VSE 4 underscores our commitment to the ongoing evolution of the mainframe platform."
