New Littelfuse SIDACtor® Q2L C-Rated SLIC Protector Dramatically Reduces Space Requirements

500A 2x10µs overvoltage protector is now available in a Chip Scale Package

DES PLAINES, Illinois, April 24, 2007 - Littelfuse, Inc. (Nasdaq/NMS: LFUS) announces a breakthrough in transient voltage protection for SLIC applications with the introduction of the SIDACtor® Q2L 'C-Rated' SLIC device.

This new device is the industry's first Chip Scale Package transient voltage SLIC protector designed to meet the 500A rating for 2x10µs GR 1089 waveform. The Q2L SLIC device offers the same performance capabilities as the Littelfuse DO-214 Pxxx1SCL protector but in a significantly smaller footprint (3.3 x 3.3mm QFN package - see comparison drawing).

Kurt Wattelet, Product Manager for Littelfuse, explains, "The Q2L family of SIDACtor devices represent a significant advancement in the design efficiency of the Littelfuse Teccor® branded transient voltage protection. The new form factor is designed to meet our customer's continuing demand for high-performance protection in a compact surface mount package."

When used in place of programmable SLIC protection devices, the SIDACtor SLIC protector removes the need for use of additional components such as the programming pin capacitor and any series resistor components. This reduction of component count helps to save additional board space and reduce the cost of the overall protection solution without compromising card reliability or performance.

"The SIDACtor Q2L SLIC device is THE solution for today's high density line cards," according to Wattelet. "Our customers will benefit from the smaller footprint requirements, which encourage smaller PCB designs for a more compact yet robust solution."

Wattelet adds, "The Q2L SLIC reflects Littelfuse's commitment to developing robust, highly reliable and effective fixed voltage protection solutions for today's increasingly sensitive SLIC ICs."

The SIDACtor Q2L fixed-voltage protector is available in various Vdrm/Vs values to accommodate varying SLIC interface card voltages. Typical applications for the SIDACtor Q2L include use in the SLIC interfaces of VoIP systems, Remote huts, Central Offices, IP PBX's, set top boxes, FTTH systems, and ISDN systems with regenerated POTS.

With its C rating, the SIDACtor Q2L is compliant with all major telecom standards for overvoltage protection. In addition, the SIDACtor Q2L is the first fixed-voltage protector offered in a 3.3 x 3.3mm QFN package that is capable of withstanding the severe surge events required in GR-1089-CORE Issue 4, ITU K.20/21 Enhanced levels, and IEC-61000-4-5, all without the need for additional series-limiting devices.

When used in combination with the 04611.25 TeleLink® fuse, the SIDACtor Q2L SLIC overvoltage protector provides a complete protection solution that complies with both overvoltage and overcurrent requirements of UL 60950, TIA-968-A, GR-1089-CORE Issue 4 and ITU K.20/21. In addition, combining the SIDACtor Q2L SLIC device with the newly released 600R150 or 600R160 POLYFUSE® PTC devices provides a fully resettable protection solution.
